I tried a 9.6v... and I'm hooked. However...

Fixed.

what are you talking about? i've used a 9.6 in the gun a month after i got it. it still runs fine on my 8.4 9.6 and 7.4 lipo.

You don't get it.

USE THE BATTERY IN A CA SPORTLINE FOR A YEAR OR TWO, AT TWO GAMES A MONTH, AT 2000 BB'S A GAME, and then tell us how it goes.

i.e. time tells

Just so my post isn't totally useless, I've been running 9.6's in all my guns (granted most had V3 or V7 GB) for about 2 years now. No problems at all. My friend put at least 80k rounds through his Marui M4 shooting at 400fps on a 9.6v and the front finally blew off. It lasted him a while though.

That's a Marui at 400 FPS for you though.

Truedat.

I run 9.6 only, have since I bought my first gun. My TM P90, upgraded, has given me years of use without a hitch.
Oddly enough, the gearbox locked once. But it was stock then.

My HK416 has run flawlessly on a 9.6 since day one, which is of course after I upgraded it. (I tend to upgrade these things before I even use them)

Yes!

So long as your shim job is good, your gears and bushings should be fine. Keep a piston or two on hand, as that as the most likely part to fail. Your gearbox shouldn't crack, and even if it does, the 9.6V isn't what will do it.

I'd be amazed if my gearbox cracked. Its a pretty solid metal one...

The piston, on the other hand, isn't as tough.

We're always surprised when our sturdy metal gearboxes crack.

It happens. Especially if you go M120+

Pistons shred fairly easily. Make sure you put a little grease on the piston tracks in the gearbox; I fixed up a gearbox with a shredded piston that was bone dry and I suspect that didn't help things. Combine a piston that sticks with a higher voltage battery and bad things happen.

I had an M14 with a V7 GB which is supposed to be one of the stronger gearbox designs. I busted the front off of two of them. Really, the only gearbox that is know to run consistently without breaking is the V3. Just goes to say don't over-estimate your gearbox.

What type of spring were you using, AsianMarksman?

I see. I thought they clocked in around 400 when stock?

Mine put out about 370 stock. The M120 chrono'd at 396. I wanted as much performance as I could squeeze out.

In order to keep the thread on topic: Most of my friends use 9.6's. Just be prepared to replace parts if need be. V2's are known to blow fronts off... when that will happen is the real question.
