Ooo interesting developments on this! Solid is hard at work getting the guns back, ill post and update on whats what in a bit.

What I was saying earlier (my mistake) was my Dad was in a near exact replica of this bust. Some Japanese guy was importing a bunch of Mauri's and modding the internals to make them real steel (wtf right?) and shipping them back to Japan for some fairly large scale weapons smuggling operation. Now, the Japanese government dosnt take too kindly to real steel stuff, so they had us ship the guy back to Japan and he's still serving time. My dad was in on THAT bust, THIS one he wasn't in.

Quick run down of the interview:

 Government needs to define "readily convertible".

 Airsoft lower has only one pin hole as opposed to RS two hole.

 Past illegal shipments have been seized by US customs and then later auctioned off to public.

 US Customs called them "machine guns".

Umm seriously?
The government does not need to define anything. If it can be converted reguardless of how difficult or time consuming , where theres a will theres a way. While some airsoft Milsim players understand they are replicas, there are idiots in ever town, city or state. Hell why won't Oregon let people pump gas? Because of idiots. There are those badseeds that watch something on Youtube, or pick up a digital copy of the anarchist cookbook and decide "Hey look im gonna make C4 in my bath tub." People blaimed the government for sleeping on the job during 9/11. As soo as the government tries to get a little proactive, people bleeding cry. Stop bleeding bitching, you want to change the government good luck.

As for point number 2....its called a dremel. You know how many asshats make mods of everything with a dremel? Hell when I was a unit armor my dremel was my best friend. Got some bent threading on a M2 barrel? break out the SARK, use the supplied mock trunion block and file, and file that thread till it fits the mock trunion block.

now on to point 3. You know what the difference between the M249 SAW LMG and AR is? The length of the goddamned berrel, the collapsing buttstock, and the improved lightweight bi-pod legs. (Back in the day this was called the PARA-SAW, now its new name is Automatic Rifle.)
The LIGHT machine gun Version, has a non collapsing buttstock, and a standard length berrel.

Everyone knows the press often takes liberty with comments and quotes, bending and twisting them to they're own liking. To a non-military person, seeing a weapon that can go full auto could be considered a machine gun.
You know how many dumbass privates i correct for calling a 5.56 magazine and goddamned clip?

Seriously people sit back and watch it unfold before you get bent around the axle over what appears to be an over inflated event.

I'm not surprised by that news report. Airsoft continues to get a bad rep because people want to see the bad things in life. I'm trying to put together something that will help represent us in a better light.

Its not even about that...all it takes is one bad seed to start the ball rolling.
case in point when my brigade went to iraq the first time, we had a female cry rape. Now, later on (on National TV...60 minutes) her husband dropped the dime on her and stated she faked her own rape to keep from deploying.

You relize at Anaconda when my battalion went there to escort some fuelers to mosul, the females were walking around with a loaded 9mm because teh rapists were on the fob? the second deployment 2 years later had assholes still commenting on the chick that faked her own rape.

1 bad seed ruins it all. So if you see a jackass doing something wrong with an Airsoft replica....do us all a favor and beat his a$$ and break his replica.

I'll be sure to do myself a favor and get in contact with local authorities. I really think jail time for assault and theft/destruction of personal property is over-rated.

A) Don't shoot the messenger.

B) The government DOES need to define "readily convertible"....... Otherwise why not play it safe and outlaw billet aluminum? Or springs? How bout brass and lead?

C) SAW vs. AR? I'd say the biggest difference is the quick change barrel and belt feeding system...... That's what gives it sustained fire.

WarPig, it seems like you have it all figured out.

Are you interested in finding out the truth or are you pretty much content with your own opinions?

Some people are interested in debate, but if you're not, I won't bother commenting on any of your points.

"Those who would sacrifice security for freedom deserve neither."
...some guy a lot smarter than me came up with that one, but i'll stand by it.

So, some asshole can turn a truckload of manure into a bomb. That doesn't mean every other american shouldn't be able to buy the shit.

Just sayin', one bad apple ruins the bunch. Our own government snags a shipment of toy guns than the terrorists win, etc etc etc...
