Pyrotechnics

Postby tsandersont13 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 8:38 pm

I was wondering if there are any fields whithin about an hour's drive of Portland, OR that allows pyrotechnics like grenades or smoke bombs. Does any one know of any?

Most all of these devices generate too much flame (fire danger) and too many people lack the judgement not to throw a burning device into a populated bunker, trench etc......welcome to USA land of litigation!

Some privately owned fields do allow smoke, at times, but it entirely depends on the weather. If conditions are cold and wet, some fields allow any type of smoke bomb - even those that are fuse lit.

As for Forestry/BLM land it's generally NEVER a good idea to use it there, you can get into big trouble.

I am going to assume your request about grenades was poorly worded. When it comes to actual explosive devices, those can only be used by licensed individuals in heavily controlled situations as a scripted part of a game - some larger games in the US have been known to have background pyro for ambient effect but it's NEVER used by the players, always the staff.

I assume he's talking about the airsoft grenades which basically use firecrackers.

The ones which are too expensive to be viable, if you can even get your hands on one.

For what its worth, I have used multiple types of smoke devices on our property. The results have been pretty disappointing. It probably would take artillery launched shells to produce the effect that you see on movies ( and what I expected) Hand thrown devices just don't produce the volume of smoke desired . This includes actual military smoke grenades (m-18 ?) of which I at one time had. For noise I recommend trip wire activated blank firing devices. They are very loud. At the ill fated "end o' lies" op I used some , and it was pretty satisfying when I heard one go off, indicating that some poor schlub had walked into one. Only downside to trips is to make sure that your own people know where they are. Some of my own people were not listening and "Killed" themselves:)

Knowing his reputation, probably not.

I asked the same question on another forum a while ago (no I'm not linking it, I don't feel like being blackmailed anytime soon ) and got flamed to no end. Bottom line: I'm not that comfortable with pyrotechnics on the field, and smoke grenades during the winter or fall is about as far as I would go. If you want real pyro, go to Irene.

If you're 14 and have no experience with explosive devices, then why the hell are you asking if fields allow it? If you're 14 and DO have experience, find some other use, cuz no one's gonna let you use it.

Who is ThugBucket, someone PM me.
