So it took me a while to process my feelings about the game.
Ill start off with the bad
This game seemed weighted very heavily toward Alpha
Any way you cut it, what Jester said is true.
Jester316 wrote:LZ Bravo- I feel that this "spawn" point, is the shittiest thing any event promoter could do to a team. To move anywhere, you have to move through thick underbrush, or up and over a massive hill. Compared to LZ Alpha that has established trails, and gradual hills to everywhere on the field, I feel that it severely lopsided the game. For future events, I would like to see a better spawn point, that more evenly distributes the terrain of Splat Action.
The force that Bravo sent made it to LZ Alpha in the second round and it was in no way the same level of underbrush that was required from a force moving from LZ Bravo to sector 2 and sector 1.
The marks on the topo map that was provided to the players has a few inaccuracies that may have been misleading in either the setting up of the sectors or the planning of the teams.
Rico wrote:Also, all of 1st Platoon was respawning at the bridge during the second half of the game. Only 2nd platoon was spawning at sector 10, didn't seem to be a problem...
If this is correct then where Alpha was spawning was a good 125 feet from where Bravo was told to spawn on the logging road.
Bravo's failure to win is understandable. It happens. When there is a winner there is generally a loser too, I have no qualms with losing.
But again here is a really bleeding big issue
Jester316 wrote:Overall- The information about game mechanics needs to be disseminated better. In phase 1, I had no idea what time we were breaking for lunch, and had multiple differing reports. In phase 2, we really had no idea when it was over. I had been told it was both 4 and 5, and it very much confused our side.
According to the game thread we were going to end at 5pm

9:15am - Overall Field Briefing
9:30 - Teams move to start points, individual team briefings (by Commander)
10:00am - GAME ON!
1:00pm-2:00pm - Lunch Break, BBQ available to
those who RSVP HERE 2:00pm - GAME ON! Second phase
5:00pm - Game End and RAFFLE
yet we ended at 4pm, that kind of screwed Bravo up alot.
The rules were vauge in a few instances
Jester316 wrote:Admins- They need to be aware of the game rules before the game, not informed of them during. This was evident from the Phase 2 cowbunker incident.
it took 6 folks in admin vests to finally decide to make a ruling at what was contested.
Why did it take 6? In my mind it was because there was too little information disseminated to the admin staff.

I don't know what free skirms you've been attending, but the ones I've been to haven't had multiple administrative staff
Chapped is right
This game was, in fact, exactly what it was advertised to be, except that the admin staff seemed to need a more detailed briefing. In the future I hope that all events that have a admin staff will provide more information in the case of vague rules that seemed as if little thought were put into them. I wish that not only because of this game but all games are hampered by a lack of informed staff.
I'm really sick of Splat Action paintball. Not the terrain, not the games, not the numbers of people. the field is in terrible shape. it gets worse every time we go there and they have showed NO indication that it will improve any time soon.
Karma's question and Matt's answer were quite effective at pinpointing the big rub of this game for me.
Matt wrote:Bad Karma wrote:That said:
I'm not really sure what I paid $30 for.
Well Justin, I'm sorry you feel that way but, as I wrote:
I wrote:... I spent more than $2500 on field fees, camping fees and props. The mortars, which unfortunately didn't work as well as I hoped due to those pumps, will be available at the next game. We had 105 people in attendance.
Why are we paying so much for this stuff.
The problems with the availability of portapotties. The lack of repairs to the field, not improvements, but repairs to the already existing structures.
If Splat wants to continue charging folks for what they offer then we need to vote with our dollars and stop shopping at Splat Action Paintball.
The Good:
Alot of the good has already been mentioned, so I'll be brief.
I found the game was your general "think inside the box" event. This event did in fact get folks to work in squads more and its always nice for a chance at free stuff. I look forward to Matt providing events in the future, but I don't really want to attend games at this field anymore.
Nothing but love
