I won't skimp out on boots. I agree they are very important. My foot hurts like hell every airsoft game because I don't wear the proper footwear. I think high quality combat boots are essential for airsoft now that I think of all the pain I get from blisters, calluses, and mud I get.

I have a very flexible anatomy and my ankles do not sprain so easily since I run/jog a lot and use to do a lot of TKD. They can take a heavy beating. I don't think I ever sprained my ankle once, but I have broken my leg and needed stitches on my toe which is what I am most afraid of happening.

Sleepy wrote:I've been hearing mixed reactions to Converse boots. One review says they're the best boots ever made, they're extremely durable, they love them, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then the next review says they fell apart in the first 2 months, they're uncomfortable, they're shit, they're overpriced, and they wish they hadn't bought them. Your mileage may vary, I guess.

I've been looking at their 6" Side-Zip Desert Boot for some time, but I really wish I could get that style, in tan, with a composite toe. USCav has them for about $90 in tan with no safety toe, or in black for $90 with a safety toe. Its a trade-off.

As for the issue of waterproofing, I've always figured that if the boot isn't waterproof, just wear a moisture-wicking liner sock under your boot sock. But then, I do that even if the boot is waterproof. Just a thought.

I had/have a pair of converse boots and they are very good. They are extremely comfy. My only issue with them was that the leather would get muddy, dry, stiffen up, then take forever to loosen back up. Eventually the leather tore at one of the stitching places near the toes. I'll still wear them, and will probably pick them up again.

I got them on major clearance from LApolicegear.com more then a year ago and have been extremely happy with them from the first day I got them.

Danner's are probably the best boots I've ever owned. Had, at the least, two or three pairs. However, I recently bought a pair of these -- http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspxpr ... 1&CatID=84. Original Swat black boots. I couldn't be happier. They are as comfortable and light as a pair of tennis shoes and there is no "breaking-in" time. Just a thought. They're also priced well.

Hmmm, boots with goretex-

Bellevilles
Danners
Merrells
Bates
McRae
etc

Yeah....even if Bates sucks...

Oh, DON'T get Oakley boots, they have a notorious reputation for falling apart after 3-4 uses.

+1 for the Danner factory store...

Seriously discounted boots with things like a scuff mark on the heal. i went there about three weeks ago and they had 20% off the lowest marked price. That meant a $250 pair of boots came home with me for about half price.

i love my Danners. :D

Just an FYI, since the Danner Factory Store has been brought up:

NEW FACTORY STORE
As we open a new chapter in Danner's tradition of hand crafting boots in Portland, one of the things we're most excited about is opening the doors to the brand new Danner Factory Store. More than just a place to try on and buy footwear, it's a showcase of craftsmanship, where you can get a first-hand look at the care that goes into every Danner boot. Join us for the Grand Opening celebration June 17th-20th.

NEW ADDRESS (JUNE 17TH)
12021 NE Airport Way
Portland, OR 97220

It's almost right next door to the original, so it must just be that they wanted a nicer place.

Oh snap. I just bought a pair of Bates Boots, and now I'm afraid to say that I'm standing in the crowd of people saying "oh crap what did I just buy". Does anyone have experience with these boots? If so, I would really like to know more about them before putting them to use... $75 that could be used on Danner boots. :(

Otherwise, quote me and say: "May someone help this poor soul".

Whate Bates boots?

I just bought their 8'' side-zip and love them. They took a couple days to break in, but now they are great. I used them all day yesterday at the Silverton game, and didn't slip once. They are comfortable, easy to put on/take off, stay tight, and are generally awesome.

Okay, now I'm a little relieved. Phew. I have the side-zip boots as well (8'').
