No, as in .308. .308 as in 7.62 x 51 NATO. As in... the round the normal M14 fires, accounting for the M14 magazine.

Yes, anytime they refer to something being a .30 caliber round, they generally mean anything ranging from .,32ACP (7.65x17mm) to .30 Carbine (which is actually a 7.62 round [true story], .30-06 and .30-378 Weatherby Magnum (Which is a big damn bullet at 7.62x74mm).

So, technically speaking, a .308 (or 7.62x51mm) is a .30 caliber round. Its one of those weird technical terms the confuses a lot of folks.

Now, that all being said, the idea does amuse. A proven action, dead common magazines, and what looks like anything from a 16" to 22" barrel. Center of gravity shifts rearwards, the sight rail gets realigned, and you get a nice little package that reminds me of the L85.

But if you're a lefty, you're mostly upsidedown. The mag release is probably a phony pony to work without some serious retraining (but it obviously can be done), and thats a lot of muzzleflash that close to your face.

As for it being ugly, I will admit, the actual physical appearance is ugly as sin, but if you're using one in the real world, it isn't a fashion show. If it works, it works. If it works, but its ugly, who cares? If its cool looking, but doesn't work, you're dead, and it doesn't matter.

Yeah I have wanted one of these for a while but since I have no m14 of my own I could never justify it for the airsoft version I had.
Since Realsword announced there type 97 sniper rifle I was set on getting a light weight DM loadout together but they never came out with that replica. This would be a nice alternative if one was presented at a good price point.

Also I agree the OD ones with the higher rail are ugly but the ones that have the rail that is flush with the body look good.

The Bullpup M14 is nothing new , when John Garand and Springfield Armory where developing a replacement for the M1 Garand one of the first designs was a bullpup weapon that would be called the T31 rifle , the magazine John Garand invented for the T31 was then used by Springfield for the new M14 rifle.
The T31 was chambered for a new type of round , the T65E1 round , this round is what you call today the 7.62x51mm NATO round.

Here's John Garand trying out the final testing sample of the T31 rifle

See how similar the T31 is to the M14 bullpup?

And this is the T31 in it's early stage

If we wielded that thing in combat, I think we'd be laughed off the battlefield.

The T31 along with the British EM2 rifles where ahead of their time , it was a good idea that had both military's decided to go ahead and keep working on the development of both these weapons they would have proven themselves and would have meant a leap forward in infantry rifles , they where so advanced that when the Soviets got wind of the development of them decided to do their own research into the possibility of adopting similar weapon systems for their own troops.
