wiring in an extra battery

Postby SLINKEY » Fri Jul 23, 2010 12:12 am

ok so i came up with an idea and i was wondering if anyone el's has ever tryed it or have any thoughts.

I have an ak 47 with real wood stock, it has the capability to hold a battery in the full stock, and the normal stick type battery under the rear dust cover thing.

I was thinking i could just wire in another connector into the wiring. so there would pretty much be a battry connector half way between the gear box, and the original battery connector, under the rear dust cover thing.

I just think it would be pretty sweet to have an extra battery there so i can just click it. when the other battery dies.

anyone have any idea's or have an experince saying this could be a bad thing to do?

Easy to implement, you just need to figure out where you can fit a switch to change power supplies. It can't be a little tiny thing or it'll burn up with all the current passing through.

I can imagine a light switch coming out the end of your gun. Good idea but finding a part to use will be hard. Will it cause stress on the battery if you were to change from a 11.1 lipo to a 8.4 nimh quickly? What about firing on auto and switching at the same time? Not likely but how will the motor and gears take it?

why not just wire them in parallel?

I'm going to do something similar with a gun in the future. Just have to get the right one. ;-)

My plan was to wire in one half of a connector directly into the system, then wire the opposite half of the connector to itself. Make sense? Probably not. Here's a pic for reference:

Sorry for the poor "Paint" job, but I think it gets the point across. Just wire up two of the non-wired connectors (one for each wired connector) and attach it to the circuit when the other is connected to the battery. If you're worried about losing them when they aren't connected then simply tie them onto the wiring itself.
For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

Why not? Very easy to solder and rewire a switch... Look up wiring diagrams or projects people might have done already.. Only experience I have on switches are installing pups on my guitars and rewiring them..

Because that makes sense.

Is there a particular reason why you would want a second battery? Only reason your battery would die is if it was a shoddy factory one, or you lay on the trigger... I would suggest trying to knock off your total resistance before tacking on another battery, and getting better battery with a higher mAh rating.

For it to work properly, both packs would have to have the same voltage and mAh and be equally charged/discharged.

I also can't imagine that it'd be any easier to have a second battery wired in, compared to simply switching batteries when you run out.

Wire it to the back , Ditch the stick . Then get a decent LiPo . Should be all you need . Unless your planning on taking a trip with it . I'm running a 1500 LiPo and it lasts all day . We shoot alot and run all day . It lasts me for what ever I put it thru . 8)

i was thinking running two batterys at once, I just wasn't sure if you need the same Mah, and battery power to do it right, i would just add it into the wiring so i dont have to add a dead end connector like posted above.

i have done a few events that last for like 2 maby even 3 days at a time, of course its not pure hell all the time, i just think it would be pretty sweet to just be able to open the dust cover, and plug in another battery, instead of digging around in my vest, for a battery and screw driver for the battery plate on the stock.

thanks everyone, this info should give me the balls to hook two batterys up at once Lmao.. :D
