High ROF

Postby YOGI » Wed Aug 18, 2010 12:54 pm

I have a CA PSD blowback. everything in this gun is perfect, exept the ROF. I have an 11.1 lipo battery and the ROF is suprisingly low for that battery. how can I crank up my ROF?

You can put in a weaker spring, but that will also lower the FPS. Or you could get a different motor and gear set.

Can you define "surprisingly low?" If you're looking for something in the 30 RPS area, then it will seem a bit slow. Usually on a stock gun, you'll be getting in the 20's by using a Lipo. Personally, I don't go beyond 25 because then I risk messing up more parts than it's worth. Usually I keep mine in the 18/20 range for good trigger response and 3 round bursts on my DMR.

I dont want to down grade the spring, its shooting 400 steady. and the stock PSD comes with a high torque motor and reinforced gears. and im not even close to the 20 RPS. im more in the 10-12 RPS with an 11.1 lipo

Try getting it re-shimmed. Your shim job could be crap causing a lot of friction. Also you can get an M110 spring and put in a tightbore and still be 400fps. I can usually get 400 to 415 out of an M110 with a 6.01 tightbore depending on the length.

Easiest thing though would be get it reshimmed, get a Spring Guide with bearing, and a piston head with bearing if it doesn't have them already. That should make the gun run considerably smoother and up your ROF.

I already have a tightbore and mine is 405-415 (only on occasions it is shooting 400) and the only reason people let a 13 year old with a gun shootin that hot is because I know most of the people that chrono. I have all that other stuff and I might want to get it re shimmed

how about cutting off the last tooth on the piston?

Cutting off the last tooth would give it less power, damage the piston, and not make it shoot faster at all. It would just move back and forth a little before being released.

All it really does is fix timing issues. The power loss is negligible and if you know what you are doing it's perfectly safe to cut off a tooth without damage.

I have done that one an older gun of mine, and I didnt see any difference in any of that stuff. then again, i never skirmished with that gun so I never knew the real fps.

Yeah but there's still more teeth left on the gear that pulls it back. I had a piston with ONE LESS TOOTH that the original one in my gun. The gear had nothing to pull after the last tooth and hit the piston head, which subsequently broke off and scratched up the inside of my cylinder ruining my compression.

swiss cheese piston
m120 spring
systema energy motor (or G&P M160 motor :} )
take last 2 teeth of gear
take last 2 1/2 teeth of piston

ball bearing spring guide to reduce stress
if you're using a lipo; have a mosfet so you dont burn out contacts

If still not enough; buy a new shell with higher MM and get new ball bearings.

If greased/shimmed correctly that would be a beautiful weapon.

Before you do anything else, make sure it is tuned up correctly while specifically focusing on the shimming. If the shimming isn't working right, then anything else you do to the gun could be hurting it instead of helping it.

Also, you could make sure that the Lipo is charging correctly and giving the right output.
