I personally don't think they'll make a 417 because of the mag size but that's just me.
they made a scar-h. and an sr-25.
Wow first off learn to read the post above yours! Secondly I know they made SCAR-H and all the rest but how long did it take for them to make the SCAR-H after the SCAR-L came out?? The SCAR-L/H came out in 2009 roughly and they just came out with a SCAR-H a year later so if the 416 came out in 2005 and they still haven't come out with a 417 some 5 years later do you think they're going to??

It's somewhat more complicated than that.

The VFC and SRC 416s have been incredibly popular, but have also spent time being canceled and then re-released. The VFC 416, for example, was produced for 2 years before being canceled for sometime, only to be re-released last year. The SRC 416 came out later than the VFC, and (IIRC) was no longer produced after the GenIIIs. New ones were supposed to come out in '09, but I've yet to see those. The Dboys and JG 416 came out two years ago, and have had troubles with production due to China.

And, considering that development of a new 417 would be done by either SRC or VFC (more likely the latter), it isn't too far to assume that a 417 may come out in the next few years, especially considering the growing popularity of GBBRs.
Ok just to clarify I was talking about the relationship between the release of the real steel versions in regards to the airsoft. The way I understand it the HK 416/417 came out in 2005 and then relatively soon (don't know the exact time) airsoft companies started making the 416. The SCAR L/H comes out in 2009 and they already have both models. So if they don't have both models when the real steel version has been out for 5 going on 6 years, I think its highly doubtful that they will put it out at all but thats my reasoning. I do see your point about the GBBRs though.

i was typing this when the post above me was posted. check the times, his is 11:21, mine is 11:22. what i meant by it is that just because it has a different size mag that has a chance of being proprietary doesn't mean it won't sell, and if it will sell, they will make it.

VFC 416 is really hard to come across with, sometimes WGC will have them.
I suggest just get this,

$230 at ASGI, it isn't a bad gun at all! but you do have to super glue a few places tho.
The VFC SCAR is better than their 416, why? Because you don't see much people complain about their internal. The VFC 416 mechbox is no good, mine went to all full-auto after 500rds and so, and the stock motor only can pull a SP110 spring.

I know I've seen a picture of someone holding one in a helicopter before, but I don't know if it was during an actual conflict.

I have seen SWAT holding 417s on one of the issues of Special Weapons magazine.

Premium - Top Tech, CA, VFC

for mid-price 416 - I recommend SRC 416

For low price 416 - I recommend AGM 416 (it's external quality is pretty dam good)

SCARS- I would only waste my money on the CA and VFC. G&G isnt too bad.

Isn't Top Tech a subsidiary of G&G?

It's used by the Irish and Netherlands Special Forces, and it's been seen in use by the British SAS, but that can't be confirmed.

If anything, it will be used as a DMR, similar to the role the SCAR-H is currently serving in the US military.

Yes Top tech is but word is that they are a premium line of aeg. I help their 416 at the show shot a 2 years ago. Very Very nice piece.

Ball bearing spring guide, metal bushings, nozzle with an O ring, deans connectors, and a mosfet. Burnt trigger contacts are a b*tch to replace, my gun's still down because of it. And I was using a really nice mosfet too..
