Does it just not shoot or does it make a weird sound?

If it's a Umarex one you need to send it to Umarex. There is a neon piece of paper inside the box with giant bold letters on it that sayd to send it to them if you have problems.

So, striped gears, striped piston or striped pinion; you would have to get into the gearbox to find out.
Save yourself some headaches, send it to Umarex, let them deal with it.

hey BLUE!

Maybe you got the same problem as me? I also heard sounds of something that reminds me about stripped gears but actually in my situation, it was the pinion which barerly touched/scratched the other gears, resulting them to make a very terrefying sound... Also after this scenario, it seems like the two gears: The pinion and the one it touches which is located inside the gearbox are a little wore down... Making further operations beeing dangerous...

I did fix it by slowly loosening and tightening a very small screw under the pistolgrip. I took me long time to find the right position though and many times it worked and suddenly stopped. But i guess i found the right spot now

All in all the little screw tend to either raise or lower the entire motor. If you seperate the motor, you wont be able to raise or lower the pinion, which is the whole idea to raise or lower the whole motor... If you tighten it too much it will be stuck and doing nothing at all(no sound either on me) if it is too lose you might get the terrefying sound again, but i did only get it when i removed the entire plate under the pistolgrip.

thats how my saturday went on xD

So hopefully, this is your problem too, if not: GOOD LUCK :) :)
