G&P Magpul pts M4

Postby Arbiter » Sat Sep 11, 2010 11:07 pm

Hey guys I am looking into getting this http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=33103

I was wondering, in your honest opinion would I really need anything special to run a 11.1 lipo through this? I am fairly savy in terms of airsmithing but I haven't really delt with lipo's much. Thanks guys :D

I have heard G&P has weak piston & gear, and they only suggest to use the 7.2V-8.4V nicd batteries.

What Gacktc said...

It probably wouldn't last very long with an 11.1v lipo, so if you would like to run it on a lipo you will need to replace the piston and gears with savvier ones.

I would recommend THIS piston and THESE gears.

Yes, Guarder gear set are nice with very reasonable price :)

Both Ash and myself have this gun, mine was my primary for CQB. Get the 11.1, the gun is more than capable of handling it if you keep it stock.

G&P pistons are fine on high output lipo's. G&P gears have problems with the axles breaking though, and it hasn't been fixed yet. They suggest low output batteries like 8.4v's because the motor in it gives a really high ROF, not because the internals can't take it, because they can. And G36FTW, why would he replace a G&P piston with another G&P piston? That makes no sense. And why Guarder gears? They're well known to be awful gears among tech's up here for the most part. If/when the G&P gears break just put some SHS gears in, they're cheaper and better.

Aftermarket > Stock, but I was not sure on the current state of G&P's stock pistons (there were several stories of them going bad last year)..

And I have had good luck with Guarder gears, I've bought two sets of them with no problems; and personally think they are better than Systema gears (only two types of gear sets I have purchased). I haven't heard anything bad about them anywhere.

It's not hard for gears to be better than Systema gears... And that exact piston is in G&P guns stock. They don't make several different kinds... They have an updated one in their newer 8mm gearboxes if that's what you're thinking of.

Alright cool thanks. So if I were to get a m4 style gun thats lipo ready with little or no mods on a 600 dollar limit what would you recommend? seeing as how every one of you except one is skeptical about my first choice.

My personal choice would be a G&P that you like externally and then use the rest of the cash for upgrades or an optic.

You might want to put a plastic piston head in to replace the metal one, and get rid of the self shimming part of the gears and get them actually shimmed depending on the output of the lipo. I like my G&P SR16 URX WAY more than I liked the gun you linked, and ended up selling it for a different gun because I'd never use it over my G&P.

VFC makes decent gun, and basically it is a SR16. I will get the VFC instead of the G&P Magpul (they just put the Magpul parts on to make it more expensive).
If you able to find a G&P SR16, get the G&P..don't ask me why ;)
