I understand how they're wired, I've had to redo it a few times. And considering after replacing the visibly burnt up contacts, it worked, I'd say that was the problem..

Yes, but it is a small current that shouldn't be more than what an NIMH battery puts out. So unless you put thousands of rounds through your rifle every weekend then I really don't know how your burned your contacts out. It just isn't logical. Maybe you had a bad MOSFET.

Definitely wasn't bad. And, again, you know the type of battery itself doesn't burn out the contacts, but the amperage they provide? A high amperage NiMh can burn out trigger contacts as well.
