What not to do with a KWA flash hider

Postby Pacman » Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:57 pm

This is a cautionary tale :) In the past with my CA flash hiders I would remove it and hit them with a propane torch to burn off the orange. It would leave it black with streaks that appeared to be realistic streaking from live fire. Flash forward to my new KWA where I decided to do the same thing. After the paint started to disappear I went to wipe it with a towel to remove the debris. Much to my surprise it moved and was deforming so after a longer application of heat it started to become molten and like solder.
Long story short don't torch you KWA flash hiders if you want to return in under warranty they say they won't honor it without the orange tip. But if you want a cool mound of aluminum slag burn away!

Wow pac that sucks the big one man :( good luck getting a new flash hider on the kwa. You have enough parts M4s now you should be able to piece something together.

Just an FYI, and maybe you know this already, but KWA sells a black version of the stock flash hider from their pro shop fairly cheap. You just have to call them and request it. Be carefull with the some of the aftermarket flash hiders though, because some have a smaller inner diameter than the stock one and they will shove your inner barrel in.

Otherwise, beautiful custom metal work there! :)

I sold both of the PSD LWRC's I had and went with an SR10 and a SR7 for CQC. So far I've used Star PMAG's midcaps and MAG M4 midcaps with no feed issues whatsoever in addition to the KWA supplied. I did discover the CA high caps will not even fit into the magwell. I read the KWA bulletin about the inner barrel and after market flash hiders so I was cautious about that and was warned by Adam at AONW when I was looking at a suitable replacement. I found one that worked ok. On the SR7 I stuck my firepig which gives me plenty of clearance. It almost seems like KWA resolved the issue as the inner barrel seems to be flush on both.

I still hate KWA's AEGs. Threads like this are a basis for my opinion.

Yeah, plus mag incompatibility, accuracy complaints, I've heard a lot of bad and not a lot of good other than "it feels real good when you hold it and stuff."
