g&p prone to rusting??????

Postby CCCman » Thu Nov 18, 2010 10:11 pm

is it just me or are g&p parts easily rusted? My friends g&p gun has many parts that look orangish. I've also noticed n some g&p product pics on like evike or airsoftgi show rust in their pics as well. I was also looking at g&p guns on youtube and noticed that many parts of the guns are also orangish. I thought g&p made the best externals??

Rust is still rust even if its on a G&P or a car, or anything steel. If you're worried about it that much, wipe it down inside and out after every game, and read this thread for other tips to prevent rusting ---->http://www.airsoftpacific.com/viewtopic.php?t=33484&highlight=

The only rust I have on any of my 3 G&P guns is a little on my Mk46 rear site. If you don't dry off your gun after a rainy/wet game, you'll have surface rust on any gun, G&P or not.

I've had a little rust on the dust cover of my G&P Marine, but nothing else other than that.
For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

Also if you keep your gun in a high humidity place, like my basement, you will probobly have rust. Its not just G&p either. My CA rusts alot and you just have to wipe it down

Replicas are like the real deal in that you have to clean them well after every use.
Hide like Savages, fight like Barbarians.

wait, so if i lube ALL metal parts (internal and external like charging handle, mock bolt, buffer tube, outer barrel, body, pins, metal parts in the ctr stock, and screws etc.) on my gun, then store it in a gun case/bag and put tons of those silica gel packets in the case/bag, will it be rust free?

I've never had any G&P parts/guns rust except for the rear sight of my G&P M249, a lot like JewishNinja's... Weird.

In theory. I've never done any of that, but I store my guns in my room and haven't had any issues. If you store your guns in a damp area, then putting non petroleum based gun oil (needs to be petroleum free so your rubber bits don't melt, Orings, hop up rubber etc) on your exposed external parts will help prevent rust.

The reason I got rust on my Mk46 was failing to dry the rear site after a rainy game. Keep a towel and a can of compressed air in with your cleaning kit for drying your guns. If you do take a gun to a rainy game, when you get home, dry off everything you can, then stick it (along with any other gear thats wet) in a bathroom with the fan/heater going. I've been doing this after rainy/generally soggy games and have had no issues with either my gear or guns having rust/mold/hefalumps.
