Thinking of a new M4

Postby tommyfoolery » Fri Nov 26, 2010 2:15 pm

Hi guys. I have been trying to get into airsoft more lately. I have an old clone M4 that I got from a friend, its either AGM, Dboys, or something like that. Its all metal but it only shoots around 320fps and its just kind of junky. I want to invest in a good quality gun, but I want to know whats the 'best'. I put a 363mm Madbull 6.03 barrel in it, which I will remove and replace the stock barrel of my new gun with.

I've narrowed it down to:
the King Arms M4

The KWA 2GX CQB

Or the VFC E Series M4

For any of these I'd replace the stock barrel with my Madbull barrel for accuracy. If I got a KWA I'd go for the CQB because I don't want it to shoot over 400 FPS (but will the 325-360 range be enough?), and then I'd just get a mock suppressor to cover the extra length.

I'd opt for the King Arms because its the cheapest, but I know now that getting the cheapest isn't always the best. Which of these is the best for the price:

Here are my thought on pros and cons:
KWA CQB
Pros: quality (KWA is good, no?)
Reliability
Cons: Trademarks
Picky with mags

King Arms:
Pros: Price
trademarks are decent
Cons: lower quality? I don't know

VFC E series:
pros: looks pretty good quality
nice trademarks
cons: plastic hop-up unit (wtf?)
the most expensive

Any advice would be nice. I want it to shoot as close to 400 as possible so that I can use .25's or higher. I'd replace the barrel if necessary with the 6.03, and I have 4 G&P mags for it (will these work with the KWA? or any of them for that matter?)

I don't want to have to open up the gearbox for any reason, but I am comfortable working with the hop-up. I'm looking to get the most effective range out of the gun as possible, because it sucks to not be able to hit somebody when they can hit you. I play in the woods.

G&P makes some of the best, and this is from personal experience. I am sure many other people will agree that G&P, and of course CA, make some very solid and well thought out AR platforms. Look into those, but both can get pretty pricey.

I prefer G&P over any KWA AEG's I've owned, and also over my VFC E series SR16. Never had a KA M4 before but my friend has and he really liked it.

I would recommend the KWA wholeheartedly. I have great experience with them as a brand, and I have bought a rifle and a pistol from them. I've had the KWA since April and it has yet to malfunction after weekly use in rain, mud, and dust.
If you want 400 FPS from the KWA, the CQB model won't cut it because it is designed for CQB, and thus only shoots 350 FPS. I would recommend you purchase the full sized M4: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=2743
It looks a tad pricier, but will end up being about the same price because ASGI has a sale on right now: 12% off (the coupon code is: thanks) as well as free shipping.
As far as magazines go, I use MAG brand midcap magazines in my KWA with no problem, BUT i did have to sand some of them down to make them fit properly.

I was just at AONW and I talked to them about KWA mag feeding problems. They were saying different models were picky with different mags. I'm not sure though I heard the MAG brand magazines work well in all of their models.

My friends SR10 barely fed with his MAG midcaps. One of the many reasons he recently traded it away for a CA M16.

I have a KWA M16 and it does not play nice with MAG mags. It only feeds on auto, semi doesn't feed BB's.

King Arms is a company to avoid guns from, like STAR. They have nice (ish) externals but their internals are crap.

If it was my choice, I would go with the KWA. My friend has two KWAs, a G36 and an M4. He doesn't take it easy on them (a.k.a he's a bit trigger happy) and they've held up pretty well.

EDIT: And if you buy KWA mags, you shouldnt have any problems, not a guarantee though.

My friend has a VFC E-series and I must say compared to my CA X-series, it kicked it's a$$. The VFC is built really well, there are just little things that VFC did to make the quality stand out a lot farther than the CA. I don't know much about the others, but My vote would be for the VFC. They aren't to common (I don't know why). Also the plastic hop up doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

I do know the KWA will last a while, but it does have specialty parts and not all mags feed well apparently. I have never personally owned one though-couldn't stand the giant KWA logo on the side, and I like my rifles to be compatible with most upgrade parts, however the KWA 2G bucking is really nice.
