Barrel lengths

Postby Muskrat » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:27 pm

This might seem tedious but here I go again.

KWA has 2 guns
SR5 Inner Barrel 10.35 inches
SR7 Inner Barrel 10.75 inches
SR10 Inner Barrel 16.75 inches

There are some others with 15 inches or so as well

I do not care about indoor capabilities, outdoor is where I want to play.

When shooting will a person notice a difference in accuracy from a 10.75 inch barrel to a 15 inch barrel? If so how significant?

Longer barrels are going to be more accurate. Since you're shooting outdoors, you'll probably want the better accuracy for the longer ranges.

The difference you'll notice may be very small. It could be pretty significant, too; it's hard to say without trying them out, since every barrel is unique.

Muckrat, you have to start thinking in terms of the rest of the world. When you talk about airsoft parts in standard measurements your life will become difficult, start thinking in metric. Roughly 150mm will give you quite a big difference actually. The big thing is going to be performance overall. The shorter the barrel the harder it is for your gun to properly stabilize the BB inside it. Essentially the BB attempts to center itself in the barrel on a cushion of air. This cushion, when pressure is applied evenly to all sides of the BB allows it to move with less friction and centers the BB in the barrel allowing for a more accurate shot. Generally when you see BBs flying left or right or every which way it's because they did not center with the air pressure. This is why it is key to balance your gearbox performance with your barrel length. You will notice about 10 to 15% difference between the shorter and longer barrel lengths in terms of ranger and accuracy.
