It wouldn't cover training or tactics, just the ropes that every new player should know. What to look for in a gun, what goggles work for them best (have a table setup with each of the different kinds of eye pro so they can try them all on), a table with each kind of gun (AEG, bolt, GBB, GBBR, SAW etc) so new players can get a hands on feel for what to expect.

In addition, have a live demonstration of what a hit is, what to do when your hit etc. Also a quick guide to gear, radios, BBs (what to use) and a battery primer. Also cover the basic sounds you'll hear in airsoft (did your hicap just unwind or did your piston explode, jams, motor becoming unseated etc).

The whole day would basically be like reading the stickies to new players/people that are interested in the hobby, but are unsure of what to do. After going through all that, we can have a swap meet so new players can pick up goodies from other players that are looking to thin their gear closet. Follow that with a skirm which will allow new players/parents to watch what normally goes on during a game.

Great idea. I would definitely be interested in helping with this.

Open training days are nothing new. Requiring attendance at one to get into games might benefit the new player base.

Question for the veteran players here.....Why is this just now a problem? Hackers, newbs, etc? I don't mean to sound harsh, but you all learned somehow, right? How did you learn? Who taught you? I mean, I have only been playing a little over a year, and I figured it out as I went along. By no means do I know anywhere near what you all know, but I took the time and read everything that I could and have had some really great people that have helped when I needed it. Is this just an issue for the young new players? I am surely all for a "Intro to Airsoft Day" by all means, but I am just curious to the background of these issues. I guess if I look back at myself, I would have had a completely different attitude when I was 16 about learning new things compared to now. I may have felt "I got it. I know what I need to know" when I was that age, whereas now I just feel that there are so many around me that know way more than me, so I had better listen and absorb what I can.

Sorry to ramble, but the hacker issues, the age issues, etc that have all the sudden become a topic here is just interesting to me and I am wanting to know some of the history of all of it here on AP. If someone with some experience could give me a paragraph on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Patchyman wrote:So how would the voucher system work for those of us who aren't very well known in the community, such as me? I've been to ONE big AP game, and that was Conflict Europe 4. Not many (hell, probably none of you) know me by name, and if I'm reading the voucher system right, it could be really difficult to get someone to give me the stamp of approval. If I wanted to get in and asked someone to vouch for me, all they would (most likely) see is a whiny 17 year old who wants to go play airsoft with the "real scene". What possible incentive would they have to nominate someone, especially if their own reputation could be at stake?

I would suggest that at the implementation of some "league" or "club," there wouldn't be a vouch system. Everyone's slate is clean upon their signature (or parents) on the dotted line. There would be no vouch system. If, after having procured a card, one screws up, then and there begins his "reputation." There would only be age limited games, heck, you could even do 13-17 year old only games. That's how most other leagues in other sports do it. In the end it is up to the promoter/event coordinator to determine his quality of the game by the minimum age permitted. the only caveat is that there are several 15 year old's more mature than 24 year old's.

-OR-

There could be the mandatory airsoft training day (previously mentioned in above post) for 13-17 year old's and upon completion of the course, they receive a special indication on their card that exempts them from age restricted events (if the age restriction is not due to legal or federal minimums like at an event at a military training facility viz. Lions Claws "OP Irene").
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

I like this one a lot because I feel the younger guys that are actually of the maturity are also of the level of activity they would come to this and it would draw a very clear line of "these people care and have proven themselves mature".

Hax and kids have been a problem in airsoft since it started. When I started games were 10 to 20 people. The community was smaller and haxs were weeded out, as soon as they popped up. Now it's more people, bigger games... Harder to get rid of the hax.

I do like this for the very reason that phoenix stated but i would like to see more of a merging of the two ideas that dos_santos wrote

Having only just come out of the age group that's generally being discussed here, I would like to stay that a lot of this would seem fairly intimidating to a new player. When I started playing a few years ago, I know that I wouldn't have put forth the effort if I needed to pass a series of tests or join a league (though, having played, I sure would now).

Isn't there a pretty large worry that this could scare people off of joining AP? I know that, in a way, that's the point, but it won't only stop cheaters. It seems that it would dramatically slow, almost stop the growth of AP.

In my eyes, it seems that it would not only shut down any cheaters, but also scare a lot of new or more casual players away.

I'm pretty sure this has been stated, and re stated. This rule set wouldn't be for every game. There would still be free skirms so new players would beable to get a feel for the game.
