Do full stocks present a problem when wearing plate carriers

Postby shakespeare » Sun Jan 09, 2011 9:36 pm

I wear a plate carrier while airsofting.
I have also been considering buying a longer rifle, perhaps an M16 or M14 for outdoor games. However, I was shooting a borrowed sniper rifle while wearing my vest, and I just couldn't do it effectively. Do M16's and M14's present this problem too?

i usually wear a plate carrier or some kind of armor, and i typically shoot an M16. i haven't found it to be much of a problem, but ive got long arms.

you could also replace the stock with a shorter full stock, like the little HK styled ones, or one of the older vietnam era stocks.

I've never had a problem with a plate carrier and a full stock gun.

My arms are not particularly long as I am not particularly tall, and I've had no issues with wielding an M16A2 over a PASGT and ALICE suspenders, which is just as thick as most plate carriers. Most likely it won't be an issue, unless you're like five feet tall or something.

I use a CIRAS and have no problems using my M14, Full stock M4 or even my friend's Tar. Although being 6'1" may help out a bit.

Judging by what you guys have to say, I'm guessing it was just the length of pull on the sniper rifle. Thanks!

For me it depends on the vest. If there is a buckle on the front, it annoys me. If it's like an EI SPC and really padded, then it's usually fine.

I have issues with a full stock even without a plate carrier, but then again that is because I'm all of 5'2"

I managed it anyways, while wearing and interceptor vest, so if I can do it (albeit not very comfortably) then I don't see it being much of an issue for anyone of normal height.

The issue is dependent on body type. If you are 6 foot + you will make the rifle look like a toy and the reverse if you are 5 foot nothing. The vest will increase the distance of your sight relief. Not a problem for Airsof but does create problems for people who shoot real guns. The Marine Corps are in the process of swapping the stocks on their M16-A4s to voter emods to give the user a better fitting rifle.

Try it, plus if its just a tad too long or even a bit too long, its airsoft, it's not going to make a huge difference. You aren't taking 300+ yard shots or worried about swing and balance it isn't super important.

Wrong thread: anyways, you should be fine unless you use a full shoulder pad. Or heavy body armor which is pointless for airsoft.

My G36 is kind of hard to shoulder with the Crye Chassis (Replica) I bought from KA-BAR...

This obviously isn't the same brand, etc. But it is the same model. http://www.monkeydepot.com/Vest_Soldier ... -v209.html

Was the sniper rifle pistol gripped or... traditional rifle grip? (what do you call that?) I'm guessing it would be difficult to shoulder something without a pistol grip while wearing a plate carrier.

I've never had any problem shouldering my G3 with a plate carrier. Though there are times it doesn't quite feel as solid on my shoulder. But I think that has to deal more with the bulkiness of my plate carrier.
