Ghillie Help

I have been trying to get into a marksman role lately, and I want to get a ghillie suit to help out a little with camo. I wore someone elses full-body ghillie for a game, and although it did wonders for the camo part, I didn't like it at all. It was very hot (as I realize all of them are) and it seemed unneccesary to have all that fluff for just laying down or stalking. Being in Arizona at the moment, I'd like something to help with concealment, but also not cover the whole body so I don't die of heatstroke.

I would guess there is a middle ground between a full body suit and taping leaves to yourself, but I'm not sure what type of ghillie fits into that category. Is a stalker suit enough, or should I get a poncho? What seems to work for you guys?

One big problem is you are in Arizona so what someone wears here in the North West will drastically very from someone in Arizona.

For here in the NW, if it is the summer you can get away with an olive drab full shirt, good face paint, and ghillied up ball cap because there is so much lush brush...hehe

Most experienced players don't use full ghillies, and most don't buy one pre-made. Best way is to make your own. Also I wouldn't worry to much about the pants, the big thing is camoing the head and shoulders. Also hoods don't work so well unless they are tight because when you got look to the left or right, all you see is the inside of the hood.

While I'm here adding strips on the hat are nice to stuff local vegetation in. Called vegi straps.

Get a pair of BDUs and sew pieces of burlap and some netting to the back of it. (The netting is so you can attach local foilage)

Just make a ghillie like the the Viper Hood. Covers your head, shoulders and arms. You would just need a BDU top and a cover as a base.

Less is more, in my humble opinion (and experience). I've seen too many overdone ghillie suits turn people into sweaty unrealistic bushes. Most certainly get something (lightweight BDU's) with the netting on the back.

if you are going the BDU route, do yourself a favor. get atleast 3 to 5 yards of 550 cord. gut it. then use it to make a 3x3 or a 4x4 grid on th back. tac down the points with shoo goo, then sew them in and add a dab of shoo goo over the sewn anchors for strength and prevention from thread rot.

use 60% light brown/tan jute
use 25 % DK Brown Jute
uae about 15% or less of green Jute


most of your green should come from natural veg in your AO.

i just finished my ghillie blouse using a MC base, OD 550 cord and some leather for the drags.

might at a thumb loop on the sleeves.
