Scratched Goggles

Postby ScaredShooter » Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:48 am

So I managed to somehow acquire a couple small scuffs on my goggles recently. They’re all about 1cm in length and grouped in one spot.

Unfortunately, the abrasions lead to blurred vision, and a huge distraction for a non-clinical OCD freak like myself.

I’ve thought of heating and/or micro-fine sandpaper used for glass, but I don’t want to try anything without a few recommendations.

Then again, maybe I need a new $13 pair. But please dont post if you're going to tell me that.

Thanks for any help!

You could buy a micro mesh kit. It is a graduated set of sandpaper you use to get rid of scratches in soft pastic. It is used in the aviation industry, so it should be fine to use on goggles.

Buy cheap goggles. Replace them as needed.

Spray some Pledge (lemon sent works best ) on the lens, let it sit for about a mintue and wipe off using blue paper towels. Keep wiping until you can not see anymore pledge.

I've done this to my ESS goggles which have a few scratchs on them, it doesn't take out the scratchs but it fills in the sratchs so you can see through the lens much better!

Believe it or not, this what they use to clean and "polish" aircraft windows (which are made from a type of plexiglass).

Try tooth paste. its a very mild abrasive. use light pressure and small circular motions. do not over do it. LIGT pressure is the key. It has worked for me on several "scratched" lenses

What happens if you use black paper towels?

As long as they don't leave a lot of lint behind like normal paper towels.

This has worked for me more than a couple times. Try it.
