Grinding gearbox

my G&G gr16 (m4) is making a grinding noise. i tried adjusting motor height but even at its highest and lowest setting the grinding is still there. sometimes my motor gets stuck in the hand-guard but if i start low and screw it in slowly when the motor begins to turn the gears its still grinding.
i opened the gearbox and the bevel? gear (one next to the motor) is slightly chipped on 2 teeth. however the gun still fires. also the bushing below the gear wont "snap" into place and spins when the gun is shooting. and ideas? do i need to replace the gear or is it something else?

Check the shimming. Either that or something in your gearbox is messing with your gears, check if anything else is worn down. And make sure everything is assembled correctly.

Where do you live? There are tech's all up and down the I-5 corridor in Oregon who can help you out for not much expense.

the gears are stock and its stock shimming unless a washer fell? but all seems normal except a few small grooves/chips in the bevel gear. could that be it

and i live in va i know a tech i might take it too

Is the plate between the motor and the adjustment screw still there? If not, adjusting will have no affect.

yup the washer and screw.i can get it to wine and disconnect but no matter how far in or out it grinds

unless you feel like you can take apart the gun and work on it STOP what you are doing. You are just costing yourself some pretty pennies grinding it away. I would send it to a tech in your area. Or post a Wanted ad in the Sales section and go with a known community member.

i did take it apart the bevel gear not pinion has slightly chipped warn teeth and one of the bushing is not staying in place, spins while shooting

to restate the question, is the gear causing the noise or should i look again

Most of us can't diagnose a "grinding noise" without physically looking at the gearbox. Take it to a tech who knows what they are doing/looking for.

i figured it probably the shimming or bevel gear i ordered some shims and bevel gear ill update in 2 days when it arrives. thanks for the insight everyone

FYI: There's more to shimming than just putting shims in nilly willy.

I've been having the same problem with a rebrand of a Cyma AKM but I've narrowed mine down to a motor problem and or the result of a missing shim.

i took another look and i thinks its a shimming problem too however there was already damage to one of the gears so i threw it in with my order. the bevel gear is very loose fitting in mine

edit: i took another look today and while i was checking the shimming i noticed when the anti reversal lock is in place it makes a loud click click click sound, i know this is the anti reversal latch working but its seems too loud, and possibly what im hearing when spun fast by the motor? when the ar latch isnt in and i manually spin the gears theres no click but when i place the ar in its a very audible CLICK CLICK CLICK nothing ive noticed before

anybody experienced this before

new gears, re-shimmed, re-greased and problem solved...i still have no idea what was causing the problem thanks everyone for the replies.
