Barrel for G36

Postby thefiestysoldier » Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:03 pm

Im thinking about a barrel upgrade for my JG G36C. I want to get some additional length out of it for better outdoor performance (via a silencer or barrel extension). What I really want to know is whether to go 6.01 or 6.03. How big is the difference. Im also on a kind of small budget here.

If you have a tightbore, you don't need a longer barrel. There is no need to waste the money.

With that said...
this is the cheap one:

and this is the more expensive one:

If you REALLY want a longer barrel, you can find one in the 6.01mm precision barrels category at ASGI.

Both are nice barrels, but if you do have the extra money grab a brass or steel cut tbb (preferably one made by Dees, PDI or Promethious); the aluminum Madbull barrels can become distorted when bbs jam.

And the performance difference between a 6.01mm and 6.03mm barrel is negligible, but remember, with that tiny edge of performance you get from the 6.01, you get more maintenance(cleaning).

You should clean it regularly no matter what size barrel it is. A .02mm difference isn't going to make a gun jam any less/more. Keeping your barrel clean is just a good practice.

I disagree. A 6.01 takes about four inches off of your spread on every side at fifty feet. And that "maintenance" should bee done post-game anyway, no matter what.

If you are careful, there is not need to spend large sums of money on a more expensive barrel. If you want to spend more money, then research a Dees or PDI, but I would suggest that you get the madbull.

False. If length were irrelevant to accuracy why not just use my MP5 as a DMR? If he gets a mock suppressor or barrel extension he will be able to fit a slightly longer barrel into his G36. Consult the barrel length sticky for your length and add the length of the suppressor ;)

Yes, But the g608's barrel is long enough to where a longer barrel would only have a negligible effect. The effectiveness/barrel length changes depending on the the fps. The g608 shoots about 370fps, which only requires about 220mm barrel for max accuracy.
like I said, you can spend tons more money on a longer barrel, or you can buy the same length 6.01mm and be just as good as you would be.

I have had two g36's, a C and a Full sized. both had 6.04mm TBB and i could actually hit a target that was farther away with the g36c. There was negative effects with having 500mm versus 240mm.

I don't think I've seen barrels priced to where the longer the length the higher the price, except for VSR-10 and PSG lengths

It is still negligible. I've compared several 6.01 and 6.03 barrels and there doesn't seem to be much difference (personal experience, but that changes from person to person).

As for cleaning, your mileage may very. I seldom clean my 6.03 barrels and they run well, but I do clean my two 6.01 barrels particularly often.

And I would still advise, if not buying a expensive barrel from Dees or PDI, at least get one made out of steel or brass. I had loved Madbull barrels, but in the last month I've had one deform from a bad jam, and one bend from being left out on a table exposed (not 100% the barrel's fault, but still). Aluminum isn't the best material for barrels.

I rarely clean my 6.02 barrel in my bolt action. The reason? Shot to shot consistency changes when you clean the barrel. As long as you aren't getting big pieces of dirt or sand in it, it'll be fine. Dust (actual dust) isn't big enough to cause a catastrophic jam.

Finally someone sees the light.. I have probably cleaned my M4's barrel once every other time I bring it out. Never have had a jam or anything really
