ICS sig hop up

Postby madmax » Tue Feb 15, 2011 11:49 am

I'm looking into setting up a sig552 into more of a field gun instead of the short thing it is now. ICS long barrel conversion, mock silencer... figured a 455mm 6.01 madbull barrel would be a lot better than the short 263mm barrel the thing comes with. Obviously this venture is to improve the accuracy and since the hop up plays a fairly large part in that I'm another person wondering what to do about it. So, what should i be looking at? just bucking? or is there some incredible CNC unit made out of gold that i should get? :D

Any input would be very appreciated, whether it be about the hop up or other important factors i'm overlooking :)

This should help you out, as far as bucking and barrel.

The ICS SIG unit itself is great. I wouldn't replace that.

As far as upgrades go, here are two options that work:

Firefly Hard bucking or Systema soft bucking with SCS.

I've had great results with Madbull barrels, but Promy or Dees is the way to go. ;)

The gun is new, worth buying new bucking for the sake of consistency?

and is it worth the extra 20 bucks or so?

What kind of performance are you getting now? The ICS Sig 551 I had wasn't that bad stock.

I personally recommend the Firefly over the SCS combo because I've run both in several of my guns, and the Firefly is just more consistent after every use.

I'm not all that sure actually. I'm off at college and only had the chance to use if over christmas break. I got it in november and had it sent home. accuracy seemed decent but not amazing. Porbably never got the hop up perfect, and never did any target shooting. just a few people and some trees ;) Looking for some pretty good accuracy as i prefer semi auto. I'm used to a bolt at this point. this is my first AEG although i started airsoft with a kwa m11. :D Hoping to have a very consistent set up with out spending tooo much

I'm using a stock ICS bucking with a 400mm Dees and it works great in my 551. I'd just find a dees, drop it in there and call it good.

They don't have a 455mm on their site. closest thing is a 357 or a 587

Also, i was looking around and found an article on barrel tolerances where some tests were made and Dee's didn't look too great. Looked like Prometheus was the best, however this was done a couple years ago now, and who knows if things have changed. :)

Anyways... thanks for all the advice guys! :D

That test was done with barrels in their stock form (IE, just out of the box). To truly see the awesomeness of a Dees barrel, you need to run about 1000 rounds through it.

You better be right ;) And any other place i could get a dee's? Like i said before, Precision Airsoft only has lengths that are 100mm off from what I'd like.

Email them and ask if they can custom cut you a barrel. As far as I know, they are the only place to get a Dees.
