Vibrating spring.

In my V2 for an M4. My spring is vibrating, any ideas on how I can get this to stop? The spring fits firmly into the piston, which makes me think the energy is being transfered from an impact, causing the spring to vibrate... What could I do to reduce this vibration and/or stop it? (Besides getting a new spring.)

What do you mean by "vibrating"?

You know the sound you get when you stretch a spring and flick it? That is the same sound I'm getting.

And wrapping it in electrical tape just doesn't sound safe at all. What about placing a rubber spacer in front of the spring, and then pushing it into the piston?

I'm guessing you have a CA M4.

Replacing the piston head almost always fixes that. Alternately, replacing the spring or the spring guide should stop it as well.

It's something about the length of the spring and how much room it has. Changing one component almost always makes it stop.

In that case, my advice may or may not work. I've heard that a lot from stock CA guns, and usually changing any 1 part makes it go away. You could still try it in your E1.

I've noticed that it isn't the spring guide causing this issue, I decided to take a small flathead and after dry-firing once, put pressure on the spring guide. This didn't seem to help.

My guess is that it is the piston, which doesn't let the spring move freely. Sometime this week I'll open it up again and test/replace different parts. What if I could find an O-ring with the same diameter as the spring diameter, and put it down in the piston? That way the O-ring absorbs some of the energy transfered from an impact.

I did this to my old P90 that was (oddly enough) having the same issue. I also replaced the piston head (for an upgrade) so I don't know which one helped it...

So a new piston that gave a little more room for the spring didn't work, now time to try an O-ring of some sort. Still not fond of the electrical tape idea, but its worth a shot.

I am going to try a somewhat bad idea, and place an O-ring on the spring guide, just to see if it will work.

Why do you say electrical tape on the spring is a bad idea?

I've done it before on my bolt action. It's fine. Don't dismiss things you know nothing about.

To me it seems like something that could come loose and/or leave residue, cause damage, etc. If you mean wrapping it around the part of the spring that sits in the piston, it is worth a shot. But other than that it sounds like trouble to me...
