DMR's

Discussion about sniper rifles or bolt-action.

Postby Pharaoh 7 » Fri May 06, 2011 11:36 am

I pulled this off of the all knowing website called Wikipedia.

The DM's role is to supply rapid accurate fire on enemy targets at ranges up to 1,000 metres (1,090 yd) with a rifle capable of semi-automatic fire called a designated marksman rifle equipped with a telescopic sight. Like snipers, DMs are trained in quick and precise shooting, but unlike the more specialized "true" sniper, they are also intended to lay down accurate rapid fire.

So I would say make it accurate and keep the FPS down below some of the DMR limits games post so you have a multipurpose rifle that can reach out and touch when needed as supress as well when needed.

I'm sorry, but I'd estimate 75-90% of DMs don't want to actually move. They want to be super awesome snipers, but don't want to put the patience in to a bolt platform, so they go with the next best thing.

Most people I've seen with DMRs have no idea what the hell they're doing with them, and end up getting outmaneuvered and taken out about as quickly as they would with a bolt platform.

There's a reason that most DMs are new airsofters, and are generally under 18.

Fine, then i will gladly be that 10-25 percent.

I think a lot of peoplet have an off idea of what an airsoft DMR is...

A DMR is simply an (accurate) assault rifle with a telescopic site and is traditionally semi-automatic. Nasty's description of what a DM is supposed to do with their rifle was spot on.

However, DMR's in airsoft are quite different. Even upgraded airsoft rifles don't gain much of an advantage range wise (~30ft?), and since many people who don't play (or don't claim to play) as a DM still use heavily upgraded rifles, your "upgraded" DMR isn't any better than the assaulting forces rifles. Also, since the range of airsoft in general is so limited, your last advantage your DMR has (an x4 or more optic) isn't much of an advantage at all.

The key difference in an airsoft DM is their style of play. They should stay and move 20-30ft behind the main assaulting force (READ: not camp). If their teammates are forced into cover, they can still return fire from behind the rest of their team, and help their teammates move up or get into a better position. They can also help pick off stubborn targets or anyone dug in with a SAW or other support weapon. This way they are taking advantage of their rifle's ability while working with their team.

And Mark, its generally a better idea defending your style of play by getting on the field and kicking some a$$, not arguing on a forum.

says the guy from California who clearly knows how much i play.....

And dude. I like my DMR ak because not only do i out range guns, i can do it accurately and with only ONE shot. This means i have a very reasonable off not giving away my exact position, which is vital when trying to flank enemy lines (this requires moving which is my most used tatic.)

Where exactly did I criticize your style of play?

I was making a statement, which for the most part is true. Most of the older players around here don't give a rat's a$$ about what you say on these forums, you can only prove yourself in person.

Who bleeding cares how you play with your gun. The pride of building a accurate and well performing gun is good enough. You don't have to be the best at airsoft or even know how to use it the right way. Just being able to build it and make it your own is good enough. I'm tired of all these guys directing people away from building DMR's.

Just so you know, Big Camo, I used my new M14 (hawt) today. I got 3-5 kills within the space of an hour. It is semi and full auto and shoots ~360. I can place shots on a torso at ~300 feet comfortably without ventilating people at <50 feet.

Switchback wrote:Why not just get your SR12 really consistent, accurate, and deadly at ~395FPS and then have the option of going auto if you need to?

I used full auto once today to engage someone at ~100 feet and fired a quick burst. Then it was back to semi.
Besides, you don't honestly expect people to allow a 450 FPS AEG at a game that you can fire at more than 120 rounds a minute, do you? That is a safety issue.

Switchback, you can hit people at 100 yards with an m14 that shoots 360fps? Please record video of you doing such, because that would be the longest range AEG I've ever heard of.

I saw SB's M-14 and him this weekend.

I can vouch for the fact...that his range estimations are off.

I'm going to start carrying my rangefinder at games. People will be surprised.

The trees are what, 15 feet apart? I heard one guy say a 4 tree square was 50 feet.

Um, what?

Personally i think being a DM is over rated. Its basically the new "e1ite Sn1puhr" to the the world of airsofting. Its a shame. But the fad will pass to a new role in due time...I just hope it doesnt turn into people running around with heavy support weapons with 3-9 zoom scopes...

Yeah, 100 yards at 360 can't be done "comfortably." I managed to pull off an 80/85 yard shot with .28's at 370 (.2's), but I had to aim 10 feet high of the target and it took a few tries because of a little cross-wind.

A DM in airsoft is really a spotter for the rest of the team.

Jester, I don't think he's very good at estimating range.

Yeah, probably not. I have measured my M249 hitting a basketball backboard at precisely 260 feet, and the M14 ranges farther than that.
