piston head

so I've noticed that piston heads come with 2-8 (so far that's what I've seen) now my question is does it matter how may holes there is and what is purpose of these hole? Also does more holes mean better performance?

the holes let air in that pushes out the O-ring, which creates a better seal. I've personally never seen a piston head with 2 ports, but the more there are, the better seal there will be, due to more even expansion of the O-ring.

A few notes I have to add to the above.

The Ares Magpul ACR comes with a 2 hole piston head. (Can't find Picture ATM)

KWA AEGs come with non-ported metal piston heads, they get great compression.

Not just the ACR but their M4 model as well (which I might add is made of brittle plastic which has a nasty habit to break)

seen a few that were ported with two slots instead of drill holes. Basically reason I ask is if for say I have 10 equally size holes does it make it better than the 6-8 port hole heads?

Which ever works the best in a compression check is the better one.

The actual purpose of the vents is to break the air seal as the piston moves back so it can draw air from the rear of the piston and the fron without creating a vaccum. Slots, holes, whatever either is fine. It just enhances the speed of the compression of the spring. less internal drag. it does nothing for the forward motion of the piston as the rear of the head will not be ported (obviously as that would negate any compression/air seal) How much diff the lil holes vs ports.. its probably minuscule.
