Are you actually planning on buying some of those magazines? Because if the shop is legit I would love to get my hands on a CA-SL8.

yeah, they are CA part number P407M. i would be amazed if you ordered those mags and they actually showed up. all of the known legitimate retailers that have them show them as out of stock. they want people to know they WILL have them, but don't yet.

places that show them as in stock are probably lying, so they can get your money and then say "oh we ran out and are waiting for a restock, we will ship them when we get more in"

Don't know. My friend might buy some for his Classic Army FAL (SA58 more correctly). Now that we know how to get midcaps, I sort of want to get that gun. If nothing else, to make his less rare (serial no. 10). It's been a real hunt to find those mids.

He took an M4 Vietnam style midcap and did some fancy superglue work to place it inside of the metal hicap shell that came with his gun. His hicap broke some time ago. It's a pretty killer setup, and he doesn't shoot much, but having more than one midcap can be really nice! He was about to start buying real steel mags just to gut out their internals, fill them with midcap boxes and mod them so they could fit and feed. That could've gotten expensive and complicated.

We'd been told for ages these midcaps would never exist. Nonsense I say.

Part number for the CA SA58 120rnd mids is P407M. I sourced it through the CA website and was able to find several Hong Kong distributors with it, but only that one in stock. So easy once I knew what to do. Shout-out thanks to Jesse (<hope I spelled that right) @ AONW.

I've bought from lots of sketchy places, and it's always turned out well. Like the $7 LiPo from Hong Kong that I use. Just use Paypal instead of a credit card. To protect yourself. And your bank account. Of course pay the extra dollars for order guarantees and tracking when applicable. And I don't think that place looks scary. I'd much rather buy overseas than lots of places in the South.

Just cause they have cool things that are elusive does not make them bad. Like at tokyohobby.net in the AEGs you can get a new PSG-1 for $350 plus 60 for shipping.

All I want is an awesome FAL with midcaps! Apparently that's too much to ask. The King Arms one doesn't count since I hear it sucks internally.

i own/owned every FAL available. the KA sucks inside and out, the CA is by far the best but doesn't have mids until they release these. the ARES/STAR feels like a real FAL and has decent internals, comes stock in semiauto (its the L1A1) but can be modified to select-fire. mags for the ARES/STAR are also a phony pony to find, and its almost unmanageably long, but because of the hopup design isn't terribly well suited for accuracy.

Hmm.. I actually prefer the L1A1s; I like guns that are stupidly lengthy. And I pretty much only use semi. Realistic externals are a fettish. If mags weren't also tricky and the hopup design wasn't poorly set up for accuracy, I would be sold.

i got a smoking deal on it because the mag didn't work. picked up an ARES mag for it (STAR and ARES differ substantially in some cases) and its been golden ever since. my plan was to run it until the polycarb gearbox blew up and then replace it with the ARES drop in metal one. ive put over 100,000 rounds through that gun since then and the only thing that has gone wrong was the trigger burning out, which i just got fixed. the polycarb gearbox has outlived my expectations by a great deal.

oh and i replaced the bucking. the stock bucking was awful.

Sweet. I might have to pick one up. Have any thoughts on what the most choice retailer would be? I was looking at ehobby where they appear to be in for $300. It says that's marked down from $520 but I have no clue what they normally go for.

get the ARES if you can. they are marked down because nobody was interested in them because the polycarb box scared a lot of people off. before you buy, be aware that a large part of the body is plastic as well. its not cheapo ABS, its more like the polymer on the G&G combat machines. i was put off at first, but it actually makes the gun a LOT lighter which i can certainly appreciate after hauling around a SAW. still sturdy as well, the only part that's broken on mine is the feed tray, and that's because i hung 180rds of demilled .308 off of it.

So the Star and Ares models are entirely different with these two guns?

I'd be inclined to go after the Star if it's that much cheaper and a decent weapon.

mine is a STAR, but if you get that version i wouldn't even take it to a game without throwing away the box magazine and buying an ARES one. the drive motor for the powered feed system is woefully underpowered on the STAR magazine. i would also wire the power for the box mag directly into the gun, so the mag only winds when it's shooting. after that, just replace the bucking. like i said, mine has been solid after all that. i found an ARES mag on some obscure website for $80, dont remember which one.
