Good base gun?

Postby Slykilla » Wed Jun 29, 2011 7:56 pm

I'm looking to get back into airsoft now that I'm moving to the Tri-cities and I was wondering what a good base gun would be. Something that is sturdy and can be upgraded. I prefer metal bodys =) Any help?

if your looking for fairly good bodies that you can really upgraded internally, go Dboys. Theyre fairly cheap and have metal externals.

I've looked at them and been tempted, but I've read a lot of people won't touch them

M4/M16 platforms are pretty much the most modular platforms in general. as for fully metal under 200$... well you get what you pay for

I'd look at the G&G combat machine series. Yes, they have plastic bodies, but it's really tough stuff. Mine's taken a rough beating the last couple months and come through with flying colors.

They're also really tolerant of upgrades, from what I've experienced. The gears are nice, stock motor is surprisingly decent, and the piston holds up very well. The only thing I'd even consider upgrading with mine is a TBB, probably a prometheus or Madbull.

And if you wanted to put on a metal body later on, there's a bunch of possibilities. But like I said, the stock polymer body is more than enough for me. As long as you're not chucking it down a hillside or using it like a baseball bat against a tree trunk, it should be fine.

Failing G&G, Dboys or Echo 1 offer some pretty good stuff.

CA makes a sportline AUG, but I don't have any personal experience with the gun itself so YMMV. JG also makes one, but...well, it's JG. I don't know if there's any used ones up for sale as of right now, but you might be able to find one.

All AUGs are built with a number of, shall we say, "interesting" flaws. If you like AR-15s or AKs they're the best as far as keeping them running.

Yeah that works to, all in all, getting an M4/M16 variant is a good idea.
