Real caps a big disadvantage?

Postby God » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:58 am

I am looking at going with 11 real cap mags for my SR10, however am worried that doing so will put me at an un-skirmishable disadvantage. While in theory the DMR won't fire as much as the assault rifle, it is still considerably less ammo then most players carry... I just am wondering if I will be extremely outgunned at any event I may go to, mil-sim or not...

A disadvantage? Yes, but not unskirmishable.
I've ran with less mags for an MP5 before. Just know that you have to conserve your rounds.

Well, would you recommend it for most of the mil-sim games? Or even for games like Fallout and stuff?

All depends on how you play man. If your a trigger happy type then hell no no way. You will find yourself out of ammo 10min into a game. If you've already got good trigger discipline then you might be fine. If you're going to go real cap I think that makes it very important to tune your gun so your shots are consistent. so that when you do send that 1-2 bb's down range instead of 30-40 you're are still going to hit your target.

If you play like me(Which is only shooting if you have a darn near guaranteed kill), then totally go for it. I personally love low-mid caps, try getting one or two, and see if you like to run like that, over mid-high mags.

I was thinking buy the low mids(STAR brand) and try them, carry a high cap, and see how things go... I try to do the only guaranteed hit regime, although giving suppressing fire is a killer on my ammo... I think I'll try it.. Would $45 shipped for 11 STAR real caps be reasonable?

Yhe main problem I have with both mid and real caps is the reload time back at respawn. The games that I've ran midcaps at, for example, it really seems like I spend a lot of the day reloading midcaps.

...but I shoot 2-3,000 BB's a day. I'm a firm believer in suppressive fire.

In my opinion, midcaps are the way to go. You still get the realism of magazine change outs, but you've got extra BBs to spare for all the BBs that won't make it to the target. They'll hit trees, branches, leaves, whatever. Or sometimes they'll hit people and those people won't call the hit. Having twice as many gives you those extra shots, but it's as ridiculous as having 300-600 rounds per mag and spraying everything that moves.

But then again, as a DMR shooter you probably won't be doing much suppressive fire - real-caps may be good enough.

In a regular combat situation, not every shot you fire is going to be a guaranteed kill. Sometimes you merely shoot to keep heads down so your riflemen can move. But again, you may not be doing this as a DMR user.

What Matt stated, above, is the logic most of the people have down here...even at very strict MIL-SIM events (although the specific event holder I go to with my son has a unique way of running things and that is...sometimes he'll require everyone who isn't a SAW gunner to run only real capacity 30 rounders and then sometimes he'll change it to mid-caps only, based on the field size or the type of event if it's a non-CQB type event....but NEVER hi-caps or winders) and we like it that way a lot due to many good reasons. Even the most stubborn event hosts down here have finally realized that in air-soft, the user has to fire several shots sometimes just to land one hit...even if the rifle is a $1000 rifle set-up with perfect hop-up. So they compensate by allowing mid-caps or multiple real caps.

One suggestion is to have a set of real capacity magazines and a set of mid-caps for when you're attending events where they will have CQB environments mixed with open field/woodland environments. Just be sure to mark your magazines with a different color or pieces of tape so that you can ID which of the mags you want to pull from your pouches based on the threat type or area you're going to shoot in..etc.

Get the STAR real cap mags. I have 3 of them and am ordering more soon, for they have never jammed on me and feed almost perfectly
