Shooting Course Building Supplies

Postby CommieHunter » Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:06 pm

I'm working on building an IPSC/IDPA/Action shooting course. Depending on work and event schedules, I hope to debut a few stages at an upcoming event.

That being said, it takes a decent amount of hardware to set up multiple stages and build target stands.

If you happen to have material that you are not using or have stuff to give away, I'm happy with re-using instead of going new where possible.

I'm looking for the following:

55 Gallon Drums (metal ok, plastic preferred)

Black plastic tarpaulin rolls

1x1 stakes, 1x2 stakes (or slats, I can taper them)

Big flat cardboard sheets (clean only. If they're dirty or folded, I'd rather buy new. Carboard is cheap)

A door w/frame. You have a door you're not using? Great.

Again, if you have any of this stuff, awesome. I'd be happy to put it to use. If I don't get any bites, that's fine too. The course will run when I can get off work either way.

Same. I can get decent sized boxes from work (chip boxes).

Hey CommieHunter, I'm pretty sure you know what you're doing, but a neat trick I found to save resources since you mention cardboard.

Cut out the shape of an IPSC / IDPA target from a large piece of cardboard to create a template. Then, you can use butcher paper and spray paint to produce yourself targets en masse. The only downside is you need to use a decent frame to staple these things to or otherwise a frame to keep them taut to get the hits registered solidly.

The upside, is that butcher paper will show BB hits much cleaner than cardboard, which airsoft guns sometimes have trouble penetrating (I notice BBs often blast out a flap instead of a clean hole) and as mentioned before, it's amazingly cheap.

EDIT: This guy has a good tutorial on making a easel of sorts to produce these.
