Rear stock questions.

Postby icebullet » Sun Aug 28, 2011 11:08 am

I'm currently building a somewhat custom rifle, and I was hoping to get some clarification.

Is the buffer tube and stock all that is required for a functioning stock?

EDIT: Cleaned it up and made it easier to read.

usually the buffer tube will come with the screw needed to mount it to the gun. there are some different versions and lengths of the screw though. the stock will just pop onto the tube without any special mounting hardware.

The Magpul PTS UBR stock or PRS. They both appeal to what I'm doing.

if it's the PRS, is it going to be a long gun (M16 length)?
I'd like to see the finished product, sounds like it would do good.

The main problem I have is that I bought a MK18 DD rail system. I not sure if that's to RS if I put a full stock on a shorter barrel gun. I like longer stocks on shorter weapons, because they give me more control.
Note: MP5

I would not make fun of you if you liked an AR with an M4 front and a solid rear. the SR16 is like that for that reason. The custom build you are doing is specifically you you you.

I will be kinda sad if you didn't put up pictures of the finished product, but that is the youth in me that will never die.

Since you wan't a consistent always cheek weld and the control of a solid stock, I'd suggest the second stock that you suggested. Both are good options however as I have not yet heard anything negative about them. The "magpul bias" might make it hard to find anyone saying anything bad about them.

Do you have a picture of what you are putting it on?

Well, I can't say for sure which one I want yet. I will have to go into AONW to fit/try them... I'm not opposed to other brands, as I've yet to find ones that I like.

This is the upper and lower I want to use~

Well, I bought my body from Ehobby and here's the first pictures. I need to get the Madbull DD ring for G&P, because I'm getting some side to side wobble with the RIS.

Now, which stock would look best? I really think the PRS would be really nice looking.

The UBR (if it's a legit one) will come with it's own buffer tube. There may be some cutting required on the receiver to fit the UBR. The UBR looks cool, but bettery space is limited. A small stick lipo is the only battery that will fit in the buffer tube. It's tight, but it works. I have a VFC 416 with a UBR.

If I had to choose between the UBR and the PRS, it would be the UBR. I think the PRS looks lame. That's just me.

Another stock that looks good with your upper receiver is the Vltor Emod.

That's a nice looking build, BTW.

Something tells me one of those fixed mini full stocks would look sexy on it..

Not on a Block II.

You want a crane stock.

I don't know much about rear stocks, but if you have any questions about front stocks, hit me up. =P

By legit, do you mean PTS or Real Steel?

Thanks! :D
