I'm not so sure it was a mental disability, but I could be wrong. The statement about the officers should have seen that he was disabled, made me think physical disability, but at this point I am not sure.

I have no sympathy for the family. I have to agree if you were concerned for whatever disability the person had then he should have been watched. That would be like me saying that because one of my hands is still recovering from being broken that I am less of a threat with a gun. It is not true. Also, maybe someone should have taught him that you can not point weapons, pretend or real, at people. Just because he is autistic does not mean he is stupid and can not comprehend things.

Really? Because I have a mentally ill sibling who does odd things and you can't just say "Well you should have taught him better". It's just not how it works.

Minerva, there are degrees of "disabled". ADD is considered disabled (yet people with ADD know not to point things at cops, or at least they have the mental capacity to comprehend it).

Just because your "sibling" isn't cognitive, you can't lump all disabled people together. That's called profiling, and unless you are an Asian woman driver, profiling is wrong.

I have mentally ill siblings as well, and I technically would fit in the category with my ADHD. My brother is borderline Autistic and such severe ADHD that he is like an 8 year old in a 22 year old body, but he knows right and wrong in the ways that we taught him.
