Tac-Ops indoor arena Portland, OR

Discuss anything and everything here that's Airsoft related.

Myself and a couple other of my guys went down to Tac Ops the other day to scout it out, and happened to run into the two owners, and had a chance to talk with them for quite some time.
They are owners of other businesses in the area, namely JJ Jump, a kid oriented inflatable indoor bouncy house place, similar to Discovery Zone back in the day. Their main expertise is family and kid entertainment, which is what they are going for with Tac Ops. They stated that their target audience will be 11 to 17 year olds, that want to have a place to go shoot their friends that isn't the back yard, but isn't as large and potentially intimidating as an AP event. That said though, they did realize wholly that that is a completely different target than what we as older players expect.
They had the idea of having different days be for different age groups, separating the "kids" from the "adults". They realized that if an AP team came in rolling modded guns, fully tac'd out, and had to play against a bunch of 15 year olds with rentals, no one would have fun.
The field itself was comparably small to Tac Tac or especially the CAGE, at 6600 sq. ft. The way they are setting it up though should make use of the space pretty well though. The only problem I noticed was the engagement ranges at maximum are only about 20 ft, and that a decent weapon will be able to reach across the entire room. They did have some good ideas with their barricades, and we gave them some pointers of what constitutes good and bad cover.
Hopefully this information will help answer some questions, and I like many others look forward to this opening up here in the near future.

Wait.. 20 foot engagement distance is too much? That sounds a little too close for me depending on the velocities they are running.. Do they have an RPS/ROF limit?

Just drove up to the place. There were no signs up other than a for lease sign. Didnt look like there wasnt much going on inside either... For a place that's supposed to be open in November.

All due respect sir, that's why its called close quarters combat. Try it in a mobile home with real guns and real bad guys....makes 20 feet seem real generous. Seriously it makes tactics all the more important....not just a shooting gallery.

No harm done, I was just inquiring about the velocity regulations.

Why are people going by "to check it out" before it's even open. Show a little personal respect.

I am consulting with the owners on making this particular play field more CQB and less open field. They will begin construction of mobile, articulated modular wall sections that are 8 feet tall tomorrow. These bendable walls will be able to be positioned in a gazillion different ways which will allow lots of blind corners and room clearing to be employed. There is tons of storage available for set pieces and the wall sections so it wont be too cluttered with stuff on the play field.

As for scheduling, the weekends will be typically devoted to kids parties and space rentals. Weekdays will be open-range, except for Tuesdays and Thursdays which will be devoted to the AP community. You can bring in your BAGGED modded guns (FPS limits at 350), grenades and what-have-you as well as your own ammo- all day Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A typical weekend (amusement-style):

10-10:15 = Check-in and safety brief
10:15-11:30 = Party Moves to Play Floor
11:30 = Play Concludes and Party Moves Off the Play Floor

11:15-11:30 = Next iteration check-in and safety brief
11:30-13:00 = Party Moves to Play Floor
13:00 = Play Concludes and Party Moves Off the Play Floor

13:00-16:00 = 10-15 year-old Open Range

16:00- 19:00 = Open Range - All Ages

19:00-23:00 = 18+ ONLY Open Range

The only difference between weekend and weekday scheduling is that parties and space rentals will not typically be scheduled.

@ Mossy:
You cant see the play field from the lobby because who wants to get hit in the head by an errant bb while waiting in line to play? And the signage was delivered today at 2:30. Patience, young one!

No problem, I just figured you'd have some signage up since you guys have been advertising a lot.

And Catch, the place is 3 blocks away from my school. So I decided to down there after school for something to do.

i dont think its a good idea to limit what people should come during what hours(because adults have more unpredictable schedual than kids do and getting parents involved with airsoft with their kids can be benefiting to the community). since its CQB what they should do is off set teams based on what players they have, and if they start getting too crowded then they can let different experienced players/age group onto the field at different times. a game should only go for about 7-10min so that there is plenty of breaks to reload or switch teams(unless its a private game or tanning). these are what i feel they should go based on what axis is saying. i'll wait until i've tried out the field next week and give a better feed back.

There is/was an indoor skate park. It had certain times/days/nights for certain ages. I often only went there on "oldman night" which was 30+, though, I was like 22 but they let me in since my friends I went with were all in their thirties. It worked fine. If you want to play with the kids, I'm sure they'll let you play with the kids ;)
