Chances are, if you deal with somebody who is active in a community they are not going to screw you over. Their reputation is on the line, people know them and know how to get a hold of them. I'd be wary of dealing with anybody with a 0 post count.

Given all the feedback we have, we are going to at least try some sort of reputation rating system in the classifieds in the future. But until then, if they have no posts and they aren't from around here - I would not send gear or cash.

Thanks for all the input guys. I know I was dumb. I had been on a role with trading you might say, so I guess in the heat I just got careless. I'll probably still go through with a report, just so that maybe, just maybe, this guy gets caught. That will at least keep one guy out of the ring of scammers.

Last "legal " advice...don't waste your time on a criminal report. This transaction ( contractual / lack of payment)is civil in nature, plus the crime occurred in your jurisdiction, and suspect lives in another across a state line= no action at best. Not to mention you live in Clatsop county...one of the least competent jurisdictions that I ever dealt with

I traded with a guy in VA a while ago. Went fine...
