Busted bearing= cause of gear box lockup?

Also, are they 7 or 8mm? I can't really tell, so the quarter is there for size reference. Don't have any calipers or a measuring device that would work for that small thing (That's what she said!)

That bearing is shot to heck. As for bearing size I'd say they look like 8mm. But I can't really tell very well. A great scale test would be to put a airsoft bb next to it. ;)

Titty sprinkles! This phony pony just got fixed too!

Anything I should look for when I replace the bearings?

I see your problem - you have a quarter stuck to the side of your gearbox.

The debris does not bode well ( sort of hard to tell grease from debris). For someone such as yourself ( gear hound) go buy a pair of digital calipers, you will find an amazing amount of use for many other things too. Go to one of the Harbor freight stores and get a cheap pair, good ones run $70 +-

Looks as if your XJ1 Incinerator Valve is stuck... but for real, looks like the needle bearings blew out and now that timing gear is bouncing back and forth between the planetary and the piston teeth. Does the motor spin?

I can't say for sure, but they look like 7mm bearings. Maybe they are. Maybe 8mm. Is it a newer or older G&P? You can even use a really precise ruler if you have a metric one.

But yes, a blown bearing will lock up your gearbox. Additionally, check your gears for broken or loose shafts. They can break on the spur gear and cause problems. You may not notice them if you don't look for it.

Wait a second. The biggest gear whore in the entire world doesn't have a caliper?

He said gearwhore, not chairsofter Mossy.

I've never had a need for one Gunny ;)

This is on my G&P M16 which was worked over not too long ago at AONW.

It's a 7mm bearing. And just so you know, G&P bearings don't play well with a lot of different gear sets... I've had to put others in a couple of my G&P AEGs that had the gears strip (all of them). RiotSC gears fit, but CYMA, CA, G&G, and Lonex gears don't.

That might be the issue since they are stock bearings IIRC with CA high torque gears. What brand should I go with in terms of bearings then?

I've only tried it with CA bearings, so I don't know for sure if any others will for sure fit but I'd just get some SHS bearings for cheap.
