Holster placement

Discussion of load-bearing equipment, tactical gear, holsters, BDUs, and other gear related to Airsoft.

This is probably a dumb idea, but what about putting a dump pouch on your leg? You know, just get a smaller one, and put it on a drop leg pouch?

The Weesatch I used to have (real one, not a knockoff) had a pouch that could hold either 1 mag or a velcro in holster. Why not use that for your pistol and leave your dump rig where it is?

Cause it's milsim to have a plastic holster that you can draw from ;)

Tim makes a good point. You don't really need a holster, just any old pouch or spot wil do on your rig.

No one is dying in airsoft, so f**k it.

This "my way is the only way" bs is tiresome especially coming from a bunch of adults.
Thank you.

It's important to remember that difference. None of our stuff is issued and magazines, especially ones that are worth a damn, are too damn expensive to drop and lose. A dump pouch is the best way to make sure your hard-earned cash isn't being wasted while playing the game. It's quicker than shoving the mag back in a pouch and keeps mud out of the reasonably delicate insides.

Try a Paraclete envelope holster... you can mount that UNDER your dump pouch.

The draw will be a little funky, but depending on how often you use your pistol, it may not be a bad thing.

The other option would be something like a drop leg dump pouch (TT makes one) with the holster mounted to your hip above it. I'm not a fan of drop leg pouches, but I do use my TT dump pouch, It's set so my when my hand is at my side it's just inside the dump pouch, That way I don't have to think about whether or not my mags are in the pouch. I just drop my arm and let the mag go.

If you want to be able to mount it different ways, get the MOLLE attachment plate for the SERPA. I ran a 1911 as a primary for a while on a Condor Spec-Ops (CQB) and found that the handgun weighed the rig down nicely; it did make the pouches directly beneath it slightly hard to access, but it works great. I had no problem with the sideways draw, and mine was at 90 degrees.
I've also never had problems with my SERPA's. As long as you keep them loose and don't treat it like crap, you're fine.

Hope that helps

After several unsuccessful "affordable" holster attempts, I gave up on cheap stuff.

Ive tried belt holsters and vest holsters. None have worked well for me. A legit thigh holster has been the ticket for me. I use a Bladetech for my USP 45, a Safariland for my Mk23, and a Serpa for my 1911. I hardly notice they are there.

The key for using a thigh holster is getting a good suspender. That will keep your stuff up so you're not walking around like some gang banger with your pants dragging around your a**.

Get a box-mag for your rifle. Then throw away your dump pouch, holster, pistol, and regular mags.

Wow. Away for 24 hours, and this erupts...

Anyways, thanks for the contributions guys. I'm definitely keeping my dump pouch, so getting rid of it isn't an option. I run lowcaps, so it's nice to just be able to toss an empty in a DP instead of fishing around in a pouch.

I'll think about giving the crossdraw method a try, maybe borrow a pistol and holster from a friend.

Jewish Ninja: As to your question on the first page- Sorry, I probably didn't phrase that too well. I've got the dump pouch mounted on the side of the vest, and it happens to cover up the exact spot where I would likely mount a belt holster. It's times like these that I realize shooting rifles and handguns with opposite shoulders/positions is f**king annoying.

I'm going to throw around the dropleg idea as well. I ran a cheapo condor rig a few years ago, and that sucked royally. But I haven't gotten a chance to try out something better, so that'll be on the list as well. And the comments about the SERPA are encouraging as well, that's definitely choice #1 right now.

And no. No box mags. Blasphemy.

To those who asked, I'm looking at either a 1911 (probably WE or KJW) or a 226/229.

Where would i keep the second box mag then? Cause one just isn't enough.

Check ebay for a deal on a safariland. If you hunt around, you can get one for the price of a new "tactical" SERPA ($50~). I prefer them to SERPAs as they stay on my leg better and are harder for people to grab from you.

As for your sidearm choice, don't go WE. KJW makes great versions of both those sidearms, which I'd highly suggest ;)

I personally don't recommend ditching the dump pouch. However, If you are worried about dumping mags consider coupling your mags together. You are less likely to use a dump pouch if u have ur 2 mags taped together, and reloading is pretty simple. Put old dual mags back in pouch, grab new dual mag, done.

For a long time I simply used a horizontal utility pouch as my dumper. It worked fine, however it can't hold a set of gloves, propane bottle, 2 AK mags, a pistol mag, and a Dairy Queen cheeseburger at the same time like my Maxpedition Rolly Polly can.

I still think you should try running a solid magpouch. just be sure to use as much of the velcro as you can before running around.

I agree with oki-san. While it isnt my first choice, i HAVE put my KWA Glock 19 in an M4 mag pouch before and it does work. It takes some getting used to, but if u have an M4 pouch that you can just throw on ur belt, u can really play around with your holster placement until you find a comfortable solution and then buy a dedicated holster
