For lightweight boots, I love my Oakleys.

As for running shoes, my best advice is go into one of the running stores. I ended up at Portland Running Co. a few months after my knee surgery. The folks there took a couple of hours to square me away with a proper set of running shoes.

You end up spending a little more (probably), but you get exactly the right shoes for your feet and for how you run. I'll never go back to buying running shoes "off the rack" at a mall shoe store.

How do the FSBs do in our wet muck? From the pictures I have found, the tread looks minimal at best.

I've never had an issue with traction, the soft compound they use gives then amazing grip. I've had better luck overall than my Danner issues I have. The only slipping I've encountered was in heavy muck on certain hills of sniperzden and my other boots had the same problem.

I like my Nike SFBs for the fact that they are light weight, but "durable" is not a word I would use when describing them. The great thing is, at the low price they go for you can afford to throw them away eventually and just get another pair.

As for running, just go barefoot. All the hippies do it!

The SFB's were designed for almost exactly what you are looking for in a running shoe/boot. They are built on the Nike Free technology that promotes simulating running in bare feet, almost exactly what you're used to. Highly flexible and great quick drying action, great for warmer climates. Be aware that they were not designed to be water proof. Having said that, I have not had a problem wearing them in the winter, but have never taken them into the snow. I have had great experience in descending and ascending muddy inclines.

Also of note, Nike will be releasing a more "extreme" boot later this year, that will be modular and water proof to suit a variety of environments. Also coming in 5 months is the SFB in Coyote Tan.

As for a running shoe, I love my Nike Lunar Glides...I'd check them out if Nike's work on your feet.

Not going to lie, I tired on some SFB's at the Nike Employee store and was not impressed. They felt like a my pair of $22 boots from Big 5.

And I like the Nike Free stuff too. My last three pairs of running shoes were all Nike Free variants.

Try wearing them all day playing airsoft vs. heavy Danner's or Oakley's and you'll be singing a different toon. It'll be the most comfortable $22 boot you ever wore...
