G36E support gunner?

Postby zombies2009 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:49 pm

I know M249,M60,M240 are support guns but could the G36e be considered a support gun, it is the biggest of the g36 series and has a bipod but doesnt have a box mag, I am wondering if this could actually be considered a support gun that could be used in a support role in mil-sim events

The G36E is an export AR variant of the G36 series.

No, As the RPK is the squad weapon variant of the AK.

Having a box mag doesn't mean anything, Because the M27 IAR is also a squad weapon using quad-stack STANAG mags in development.

If your wondering which G36 would be for a SAW gunner, it's the MG36.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can use the G36 when you're the door gunner on the space shuttle...

Possibly a noob question here: How is a G36E with a double drum magazine any different than a MG36?

an MG36 is a platform built for sustained fire as a light machine gun.
The G36 is a battle rifle.

For once I agree with the typical "google it" as the first thing that comes up is the wikipedia article with the information.

There is no "MG36", it's just a concept.

And Pseudowhatever, in the concept, there were several changes but the only one i remember was a heavier barrel.

There IS a MG36. It was made. it's just no longer offered/produced because the Bundeswehr didn't want it.

Just because they abandoned it doesnt mean it never existed...

They built about 100 of them. Nobody bought them. Like, nobody.

It's a slightly oversized G36, with a heavier barrel and different stock IIRC. They used Beta C-Mags (100-round drums). Beta C-Mags are pretty unreliable on the range, let alone out in the field. HK abandoned it when they couldn't find anybody willing to buy it.

You want a G36 support weapon? It's called an MG-4. Except it isn't a G-36, and doesn't use failure-plagued C-Mags. It's HK's answer to the SAW. Same ammo, same box mag. Generally similar profile. MP-5 style fire controls.

For airsoft you can use a G36E with a box mag as a MG36. I have used one and have one still. Ignore all the trolls.
