With those dummy helmets, you will NEED to replace the straps and pads as they are hopelessly bad and render the helmet unwearable. The pads make the helmets sit too high on your head, and the chin strap is impossible to adjust properly. Apart from that, the helmets themselves are pretty well built and look the part (I own that IBH). Check out Oregon Aero pads and straps for replacements:

As for the knock-off Sordins, I haven't used them, but I've heard nothing but horror stories about them.

You'll want to get the Bliss Kit Model 45 (for ballistic helmets), which includes the pads and straps, because you will need to replace both of those things on either of those repro helmets. It costs 82 bucks before shipping. The Coyote Brown one appears to be on sale for $62 as well. http://www.oregonaero.com/prlist14.htm

All I've heard about the fake Sordins is that they're pieces of shit. I've never actually owned or used them, however. Someone else will have to shed some light on those for you. The biggest difference between an IBH and a MICH is that the IBH is more open on the sides and doesn't cover your ears (getting shot there sucks). They are also used by different service branches if you are going for an impression.

IBH's aren't really used. Very few were made (under 1,000 IIRC) and were only given to SEALS (again, IIRC).

You may be thinking about the Mich 2001 which looks SIMILAR to an IBH, or an OPS CORE FAST helmet, again which looks SIMILAR to an IBH.

MICH 2001:

Edit:

According to THIS SEALs, CCT, and PJ's were given the IBH, and only 741 were ever made.

i have two m1 pots. so whats the difference between the ops core and IBH. not going for a impression just looking for a practical helmet also so i don't really care if they were just given to seals or not.

I've owned almost all the helmets listed (and a couple others)* so here's my feedback on helmets:

-My very 1st helmet was a cheap PASGT helmet I bought at Andy & Bax. Fit well, but hot as the dickens in the summer and not really adjustable (except for the basic chin strap).

-My 2nd helmet was a replica IBH. Pads sucked, straps sucked, but the high ear cuts allowed me to wear my Comtac II's with no problem.

-My3rd helmet was a replica MICH2000. Pads & straps were a bit better but required a bit of adjustment when I'm wearing my headset (and again if I'm not). I have a Comtac II which was designed to fit better under helmets, but as I said this was a replica (which was bigger than a real MICH) so YMMV.

-My 4th helmet is a modified ProTec-like helmet I ordered from these guys. My model apparently is discontinued but it looks like it was replaced with the A-Bravo Half Shell w/ Wilcox Shroud (without the shroud). Fits really well and adjustable; liked it so much I use it as my actual bike helmet.

-My 5th helmet is a replica MICH2001. Like the MICH2000 the pads & straps are okay, but since it's a knockoff it's a little small & not really in spec. At least it was a high cut so my Comac's fit. With both MICH's I'd recommend getting better straps & pads.

-My latest helmet is a replica Ops-Core FAST PJ helmet. I did a little review on it and of all the helmets I've had I loved how it fit right out of the box. The Occ-Dial system kept is securely on my head & my Comtac's easily fit under it.

TL;DR If your impression is going to include that headset in your OP I'm going to recommend an Ops-Core style helmet or a MICH2001 with an Oregon Aero kit.

*Except the M1 pot 'cause I'm not hipster enough like VogonFord... Yet.
