New barrel and bucking making my gun louder?

Postby Bigfoot571 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 12:11 pm

Ok, so here is the situation. I just got a 6.03mm barrel and a Systema Hopup Bucking (that's what I think it was, the rubber peice?). So I put in all the new parts into My G&G Combat machine M4. Then I went out to test fire it, but when I shot it, it seemed louder, or like the piston was hitting harder, didn't sound as soft as it used to. I don't know if this is normal or what. It still shoots fine, the sound is just worrying me, so any help guys?

Thanks,

Simply changing the barrel and the bucking would not and can not make the "piston hit harder".
The louder sound is probably in your head.

If it's not and it really is louder, my theory (which is probably wrong) is thus:
It may be because you now have a better air seal with the new hop-up + barrel, causing the BB to have a more audible "crack" when it leaves the barrel.
If your rifle shoots fine, as you say it does, and if my theory is correct, then the new loudness is a good thing.
It means your rifle is shooting hotter due to a better air seal.

:edit:
Also, your signature is the lamest thing I have ever read. I hope you put it there facetiously.

Ok, that's really what I was hoping for, that was my original theory, but I read something that said it was bad so I kinda freaked out a little. I got the bucking for the sole purpose of having a better air seal, so thats probably why.
Thank you!

It could be bad, but only because another 10 FPS could set you over limits for some ranges. I had a gun that shot 325, so with a 10 fps kick(The equivalent of switching from maybe a 3.06 to a 3.03mm bore barrel?) it would shoot 335, which is over my local field's "no exceptiongs 330 fps unless your 18, come at a different time of day, and sign a bigger waver" rule. Rofl.

If your barrel is any shorter, that too may increase noise slightly.

I think NB was not quite on with his diagnosis.

My guess, honestly, would be that you have a poorer air seal than before. Here's why:

When your AEG fires, the spring presses the piston forward, compressing air. The compressed air provides resistance to the piston, while at the same time pressing the BB out the barrel. This compressed air actually provides a cushion for the piston to land on. This is why, when you dry fire, it's a much louder snap than when your AEG is shooting pellets. Additionally, if you ever get a real jam, the gun makes a dull 'whump' instead of the normal sound. Why? It's because all the air is held in, cushioning the piston.

Now, in your case, your AEG made a certain noise originally. When you changed the bucking and barrel, you may have affected the air seal. My guess is that you have an air leak at the bucking (or somewhere in the vicinity of the hop-up unit). This means that air is leaking out, providing less back pressure, which allows the piston to drop harder, causing the louder sound.

I would check into this, and maybe have someone experienced take a look and see if the bucking is installed correctly and the hop-up unit is seated like it should be.
