TM M4 as old as some of the players out there. She no shoot.

Dusted off the old M4.
c.2001 TM 2nd Gen M4.
M120 spring, Systema 1000 motor, Systema tappet, TN barrel, metal bushings. All else stock.

Back when I actually played, she began having issues with either the 8.4v or 9.6v batteries where after a few mags it seems to overheat and shut down. You can hear the motor trying to pull current, and make a click, but its like the wires or motor cant handle the draw needed to cycle the gearbox. After a good 15-20min she is ready to shoot again.

Anyone else ever have this issue? Used the AEG for 2 good years with this setup without issue. Then it got all lazy on me. Would like to get this gun back into good shape before just replacing it.

Sounds like battery problems or motor problems. You sure that the motor is in good condition? Troubleshooting is easy. Hook up a buddy's motor to your gun, test fire. Repeat the test with the old motor and a new battery. Get back to us, I'd love to hear how this turns out. :)

Does this happen with either battery? If it only happens with one and not the other then you have a weak battery.

OR

If the motor overheats and then shuts down, cools off and then works again for a short time. Cycle repeats. This sounds like the motor is bad. Temporary replace the motor and see if the issue remains.

Let us know the results.

Sounds like there's a resistance problem somewhere, either in the battery or one of the wiring connections is bad somewhere.

Does the motor actually overheat? Or do the batteries get hot? This can help you narrow down where the issue is.

If it's neither, there may be a bad wiring connection.

It's the motor. Replace it with a new high torque motor and all will be good till the next thing breaks. I would guess with it being old that the contacts, brushes, and whatnot have some corrosion/buildup on them. Could even have some dust in the motor causing issues.

But for around $45 a new high torque motor is an easy fix.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty
