G&G gr16 nbb upgrade

Postby Butterrz » Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:04 pm

Hello all,

I've recently gotten a hold of a g&g gr16 combat machine, non blowback version. It shoots around 300 fps with .25 biovals, and ranges about 100 ft with about a 8-10inch grouping.

I need your help on finalizing a few upgrades that I had in mind and want to hear your thoughts on if it's a good idea. So My goal is to hit 350 fps with .25 bb's, and increase my range to at least 150ft with fairly decent groupings (under 6 inches?).

Will these upgrades achieve me that?
-Barrel: Madbull tightbore barrel 6.03
-Hop up bucking: systema / madbull reds
-Spring: M120 spring of some sort (need suggestions)
-Nub: PCS

I've never disassembled an airsoft gun before, But I did do alot of work with air rifles so I'm not too worried about unscrewing a few things. If you guys have any suggestions or feedback that would be much appreciated. Thanks

Start with the bucking and barrel and then go from there. Both madbull and systema make great buckings. In my opinion go with whatever is cheaper or available. It's probable that with the new barrel and bucking your FPS will increase from better compression. If you are having compression issues wrap your hopup in teflon tape from about the end of the hopup unit until about half an inch down the barrel. It's a nice little mod that can clean up compression leakages from your bucking. Hopups might be rather simple, but make sure you do your homework on them before you open it up, there are a good number of small parts that like to go missing if you are unaware of them or aren't paying attention.

PCS nubs, while cool, have been shown to really only change your shot groupings from a circle more to an oval. While this does technically make it easier to hit a human sized target, they don't play into your accuracy as much as some people think they do.

If I were you I would avoid the gearbox entirely until you are 125% confident that you have amassed enough information and watched enough videos on it to know what you are doing. I made the mistake of thinking I could change a spring easily when I first started and ended up taking my gearbox in a CD bucket to AONW. Jesse was not pleased

Also, FPS is just a number, not a measure of how good or accurate your gun is. The major plus in my mind for FPS is the ability of using a higher BB weight for more stable shots that can puncture brush easier. Just my 2 cents.

Hey thanks for the response cloudy rain. I'll take your advice and work on the barrel and hop up first and I'll go from there.

If you want good accuracy, get a Madbull barrel.

If you want great accuracy, get a Prometheus, PDI, Deepfire or a Precision Airsoft barrel (AKA Dee's).
