Sounds like an outstanding event Bill. I'm looking forward to hearing more details.

Sounds like good stuff.

Bill;
What kind of time frames are you figuring for each competitor?
Effective stalking under the searching eyes of a spotter at such short range is going to be slow going. You get enough hats in the ring and this could take a week or more to run everyone through.
Great idea though... Just wondering how you're planning on compressing this into a weekend event.

We will have large area's determined area's for the competitors to start at. (Out of observer view)

There will be multiple competitors moving on an objectiive at the same time. For the distance we are looking at to travel....a couple hours should suffice per stalk. We will have 2-3 shoots on the day.

This is the first run for the event. Im going to heir to the more conservative side. More control. More time.

Simple but clear grading criteria ect.

Little news update:

We have upgraded this competition from concept to actual. Ill be posting the rules of the event in the next couple days. Im in the process of locating the proper field, and getting our evil nasty and mean observers for the event.

After the suitable field has been locked down, we will set a date, and open registration.

So, shine up your innerbarrels, grab your burlap, and start sharpening your skills. We will have at least a month of lead-time for any rollout date for the comp.

I want to hear from you guys though: When would you like to do it. And I'd like a tenative number of interested players for the event. List yourselves on this thread.

I would like to participate in the event.

Scheduling it in April or sometime there about would give people a little bit of training time after the two CQ events and Solomon's Pass.

You guys are hitting close to the timeframe I was initially looking at....sometime in March.

The more input I have from interested players the closer the event date will line up with the wants of the competitors.

Im sure there are some ole'pro's out there that would be willing to do some teaching between now and then too.

I wasn't talking about intentionally hitting the spotters, and I knew that it's paper targets only. Read my posts. I said if somebody were to shazaam up, and accidentily hit a spotter. It's a possibility, however remote. If I had a guy with a rifle shooting 600 fps downrange from me, shooting in my direction, I'd want glasses.

spotter = teammate
observer/walkers= people you dont want to know where your location is

ninjaownsthenight, i mean no offence, but from thread to thread, there is one thing that has remained consistant with you and your posting, and that is, it is generally useless information that is valued by noone but yourself. i am sure niall is getting tired, as is many other mods, plz do us all a favor and stop posting if you possibly can....... this post does not require a responce, yet i am sure there is one comming.

on topic... if i take the first shot with a rifle, confirm the hit, then call in to take another shot, and use my pistol.....do i get extra PTS. ???

The spotter detects, observes, and assigns the target and watches for the results of the shot. The spotter is the 'brain' of the sniping team. Using his spotting scope, he will also read the wind by using physical indicators (dust, leaves...) and the mirage caused by the heat on the ground. Also, in conjunction with the shooter, he will accurately make calculations for the distance, angle shooting (slant range), mils dot related calculation, correction for atmospheric conditions, and leads for moving target.

He also provides the team security, therefore he is usually armed, e.g., with an automatic assault rifle. It is often the case that the sniper rifle is assigned exclusively to a single person, therefore in the case of rotation the spotter carries two weapons.

The spotter is also usually tasked to ensure proper communication with adjacent units, adjusting indirect fire and close air support for the team.
