or how about just asking if people would be willing to do prepay? I don't have a paypal account, but I would be willing to make one if I had to.

I can't picture myself, pre-paying on every single op, mini-op, larpsoft or glorified skirmish that I'd like to attend.

Not everything needs a pre-pay.

Prepay is only needed for big games,
That kind of thing i guess would be left up to the promoter.

My comments to pre-pay only had to do with what Matt mentioned in the OP, as seen above. I don't see a reason for a small skirm needing it, because the expense isn't the same for the host. Sorry, I should have clarified that I supported pre-pay for the large OPs.

Every event promoter thinks their game is a big op ;)

I agree with Rick. It's more of a gesture of courtesy to say you're not coming than anything else. What actually bothers me are the people at 3 am the night before writing apology letters for not going because they've been up all night partying instead of partying the next day in the woods. ;)

I think pre pay is the way to go. That said let me recount something. I prepaid about $200 to c-tac for an event that promised to be spectacular ( end o' lies). The event was put on but in a spectacularly bad way. Lots of people tried to get their money back (pay pal) as they were pretty sore about the lack of performance by the event promoter. I do not think any one got their money back (?) I took the loss as an expensive lesson. Because of this I am pretty un-enthused with pre pay. The people who have a track record, ( Rick , Matt etc...) I will pre pay for events, anyone else is not going to get my attendance / money.

If you make people prepay you will have a much smaller attendance and I don't think the smaller attendance is necessarily a better group, just people who are more adept or able to buy things online.

Example: I can't use my paypal because it's in dispute because of a roommate incident. I still show when I say I'm going to show.

So there you have it, fellas. If you don't want Dan to come to your event, require pre-payment ;)

But for a pre-pay, I'm sure someone on CAG has a usable PayPal account that could be used, right? I wouldn't think that your account being in dispute would stop you from signing up for an OP that asks for pre-pay.

Paypals are easy to make and use. If we want to do prepay more often, we should make a good guide to making and using a paypal account.

And people that can't make an account (kids) or have an account in dispute (Dan) can always go in with other people.
