10 tips for new airsofters

Discuss anything and everything here that's Airsoft related.

Postby Nocte » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:27 pm

All of the numbered points are great and I'm sure this will see dozens of add-on comments, but really, everything in this thread could be summed up by:

1. You're new. There's people playing airsoft that have been doing it way longer than you. Watch how they play, and try to emulate that as best you can. You don't have to be their tag-a-long super-buddy, but stick with a squad you like without getting in their way and learn how they fight. Try to fit in. Eventually, you probably will. When you've learned all you can from these folks, start the process over with a different group that plays even better.

this exactly, It took me 1 OP of "FUUUUUUUU... why do i keep getting shot" to being able to roll with and be part of a squad that has been playing together for years.

there is a reason that people do things the way they do, learn why
I DID NOT INVENT THE INTERNETS FOR THIS

On a related note, not everyone knows hand signals. I know some, but mostly for giving orders when moving with a team such as "double time," "form a staggered line," "get down," "rally on me," and "get down and seek cover".

That's about all I know. Pointing, flashing numbers, pointing some more, waving your hand, and making a pantomime of giving yourself a handy tells me nothing. Sometimes it's simple, sometimes people want to have a conversation like that. If that's the case, consider most people out there non-fluent. Getting mad because I have no idea what you want is silly, because no one knows what the hell you want but you.

Violence of action is the key to achieving victory. Making contact, breaking contact, or hitting an objective, dump ammo. Ammo is cheap. Shoot it. And move. Move while shooting. Move while reloading. Move while thinking about shooting or reloading. Assault through.

If you've been in cover long enough to say "I've been in cover for a second", it was time to move about 3 seconds ago.

Probing fire / searching fire / grazing fire / suppression fire is great. Use it as ballistic cover, and KEEP MOVING.

16). Be aware of your guns capabilities. If a guy’s 80+ feet out and you know you can’t hit him, don’t shoot.
And don’t shoot and everything that moves, get them when you know you can hit them. Unless its suppressing fire.
Hide like Savages, fight like Barbarians.

Wear the correct uniform color for the side you're supposed to be on and/or that you registered to be on.

Always, always, always call out that you've been hit when you get hit...or possibly be subjected to a barrage of BB's being fired at you until you eventually start to REALLY feel the BB's hit you in a way you really don't want to feel them hitting you!
