Are your internals stock? Didn't you post something about your gun shooting shooting over 350 and wanted a downgrade? I're confused.

I thought a motor just increases the rpm?

It depends.

High speed motors, in combination with high speed gears and a larger battery, can significantly increase your rate of fire.
High torque motors are generally used for AEG's that have upgraded internals and springs and need a stronger motor to pull its spring.
Standard motors are generally replacement motors for stock motors that have burned out.

No, that motor will not fit. The g36 uses a ver. 3 gearbox, which takes a short type motor. This motor is the one you want if you're looking at G&G

I've had experience with the long version of THIS motor for around 30k rounds in my VFC MK17, and I would recommend this as an alternative if you decide not to go with the G&G. http://www.airsoftoutletnw.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=1837&category_id=92&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28

I use a high torque motor in conjunction with standard ratio gears to achieve a RoF of around 26 bps @ 400 FPS in my guns. I have found this combination works quite well if you don't want to spend too much on fancy upgrade gear sets.

EDIT because I'm a dumbass

Don't a G&G motor. They are pretty basic and drain batteries pretty quick. I mean it's not an awful motor, just there are better things out there.

my gears are high speed and fully steel so that shouldn't be an issue

Even though you have full steal gears you are still going to need to upgrade your piston preferably full metal teeth so it last long but.

This is incorrect. You do not need an upgrade piston unless you are doing something drastic such as a high RoF setup, or bumping your fps over 400, such as for a DMR.

A polycarbonate (lexan) piston works quite well for most guns, and they are fairly inexpensive compared to full metal tooth pistons. Also, it's a good idea to stick with a polycarbonate piston, that way if something goes wrong you're replacing a 20$ part vs. an entire gear set. I use this piston in both of my guns. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_148&products_id=2247

Here's the same product on the AONW website if you're looking to buy local. http://www.airsoftoutletnw.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=966&category_id=87&keyword=modify+polycarbonate&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28

tl;dr Piston upgrades aren't necessary until your old piston breaks, or you upgrade lots of other parts....unless you bought a G&P
