If you are hell-bent on being a sniper "in the middle of the battle," I suggest going with a DMR platform. As a sniper you cannot engage people within 50 feet (long withstanding AP rule) which severely limits you, especially if you truly want to be as up close and personal as you say. As a DMR you can both get the range you are looking for as well as the "cool-factor" of running around with a big scope on your gun.

ya i would go dmr you can go up to 475 fps (450 at some fields) which is enough to get those people out past the range of normal AEGs and still be have a chance if they are closer then 50 feet. Also if you don't know it would have to be mechanically unable of firing full auto (cant just be set to semi auto it must not be able to fire full auto at all). and i would also recommend a good pistol in case you run into a closer range situation like a building or something like that.

If you want to snipe and be in the middle of a battle (usually a silly idea) try just mounting a scope on an automatic, it's not really a sniper but if you get a nice enough automatic they're functionally the same.

For a simple one you can just get an M16, upgrade it to 450ish and modify the selector so it won't go into the full auto position anymore.

I ran a DMR one game. They said it was like bees stinging them. Plus unlike a sniper you can peg them as many times as you want and quickly so they are more likely to call the hit.

The thing that makes a sniper more effective is heavier BBs - so you can get the same effect in a DMR.

DMR Stands for Designated Marksmen's Rifle, it's essentially a semi automatic rifle (IE.. an, M14, Dragunuv, PSG-1 or other sort of rifle) with a moderately powerful scope on top and is for the most part used as a precision rifle in situations where other sniper rifles wouldn't work (such as an urban enviornement or in a fireteam situation).

More importantly to airsoft, the DMR functions with precision similar to that of dedicated sniper weapons but also with a semiautomatic rate of fire (and on some models iron sights below the scope although this isn't that common nowadays). So you essential get a nice precise weapon with a rate of fire that prevents you from being killed up close.

Keep in mind that not all events utilize a DMR velocity limit. Upgrading your AEG to over 400fps may not allow you to use it in games.
