DMR Stands for Designated Marksmen's Rifle, it's essentially a semi automatic rifle (IE.. an, M14, Dragunuv, PSG-1 or other sort of rifle) with a moderately powerful scope on top and is for the most part used as a precision rifle in situations where other sniper rifles wouldn't work (such as an urban enviornement or in a fireteam situation).
More importantly to airsoft, the DMR functions with precision similar to that of dedicated sniper weapons but also with a semiautomatic rate of fire (and on some models iron sights below the scope although this isn't that common nowadays). So you essential get a nice precise weapon with a rate of fire that prevents you from being killed up close.
